Description
INK CARTRIDGE
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an ink cartridge, especially to an ink cartridge supplying ink to an ink-jet printer. This application is based on the Chinese Patent Application No. 200910306927.7 filed on September 12, 2009, which is incorporated by reference herein.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The current ink cartridge mainly comprises a container with an accommodating chamber to accommodate ink and an ink supply port to supply ink. The ink cartridge further comprises a retaining member with a latch portion. This type of retaining member is with complex structure and easy to be broken. Further, the material requirement is strict. It is inconvenient for a user to remove the ink cartridge out of the carriage of the printer. If the user is not familiar with the structure of the retaining member, it is easy to be broken. The ink cartridge will stay in the carriage. If user takes a rough way to pull it out, the whole ink cartridge may be damaged. Ink will leak and cause the environmental damage. Finally the printer will not work. In another aspect, the retaining member will take some space when the ink cartridge is mounted in the carriage, therefore, the ink volume of the container will be decreased. In addition, the complex structure of the retaining member makes it very difficult when manufactured, and it also increases the cost.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
The object of the present invention is to provide an ink cartridge with a simple positioning structure. It can form an accurate match with the carriage. User can easily install and remove the ink cartridge. Finally, it can save the cost.
In order to achieve the above mentioned object, the present solution provides an ink cartridge comprising a container. The container comprises a top wall, a bottom wall and a plurality of side walls connecting to the top wall and the bottom wall. An ink supply port is provided on the container. A resilient locking member is provided on one of said a plurality of side walls. The resilient locking member extends outwardly from the wall to the maximum contour of said
container.
The ink cartridge further comprises a circuit board with a plurality of contact electrodes provided on one of said a plurality of side walls. The resilient locking member is provided on the same side wall.
The ink cartridge further comprises a supporting member provided on the outer surface of the container. The resilient locking member is fixed on the container through a supporting member.
The ink cartridge further comprises a through hole provided on the supporting member. One end of the through hole is located just above a light-emitting member provided on the circuit board.

Fig.8 is a sectional view of a third embodiment of the invention.
DESCRIPTION OF THE EMBODIMENTS
The first embodiment
Referring to Fig. l to Fig.3, an ink cartridge comprises a container 1 which can be mounted in a carriage 6. The container 1 has a top wall 11, a bottom wall 12, a pair of wide sidewalls 41 and a pair of narrow sidewalls 42 connecting to the top wall 11 and the bottom wall 12. An ink supply port is provided on the bottom wall 12, a circuit board with a contact electrode 3 is provided on one of the narrow sidewalls 42. A resilient locking member 5 with curved surface is provided on the outer surface of the wide sidewalls 41. The resilient locking member 5 is made of rubber.
Please refer to Fig.2 and Fig.3, the outer surface of the resilient locking member 5 has a one-way curvature. However, the resilient locking member 5 can also have a bi-direction curvature. The resilient locking member 5 forms a part of the maximum contour for the ink cartridge. In another word, the ink cartridge 1 is a little thicker than the prior ink cartridge.
Referring to Fig.4, when the present ink cartridge 1 is mounted into the carriage 6 of the printer, the resilient locking member 5 will tightly press the inner wall of the carriage. The friction force will keep the ink cartridge stably mounted in the carriage. Please refer to Fig.4, there are three ink cartridges 1 mounted in the carriage 6, Partition plates are provided in the carriage to divide to inner space into three separated house. The partition plates can also be removed. In this situation, the ink cartridge or the resilient locking member can be designed a little thicker. Then, they will press each other tightly and stay in the carriage stably.
The second embodiment
Referring to Fig.5 to Fig.7, the ink cartridge comprises a circuit board with contact electrode 3 on a sidewall 4. The resilient locking member 5 is provided on the same sidewall 4. It is clear that the sidewall can be not only a smooth surface but also a curve surface or irregular surface. The resilient locking member 5 is fixed on the sidewall 41 through a supporting member 7. A semi-closed cavity 71 with a groove 72 is provided on the supporting member 7. The resilient locking member 5 is tightly fitted in the cavity 71, of which a part extends out of the groove 72. The outside part forms a part of the maximum contour of the ink cartridge 1. In another word, the resilient locking member 5 makes the ink cartridge a little wider than the standard ink cartridge. When the ink cartridge 1 is mounted into the carriage, it will press against the inner wall of the carriage as the former embodiments do. Therefore, the ink cartridge 1 will stably stay in the carriage. In this embodiment, the resilient locking member is made of silicone material.
The third embodiment
Referring to Fig.8, the right sidewall comprises a plurality of irregular walls. The resilient locking member 5, which is higher than the contact electrode 3 of the circuit board, is provided on a
narrow sidewall 42 by a supporting member 7. A through hole 8 is provided in the supporting member 7, of which one end is located just above a light-emitting member 31 on the circuit board. The through hole is used for transmitting the signal light emitted from the light-emitting member. In this situation, the ink cartridge can be used in a specific printer. In addition, an engaging pin 9 extends out from the top wall 11 of the container 1, which makes it easier to remove the ink cartridge out of the carriage.
INDUSTRIAL APPLICABILITY
The ink cartridge according to the present invention can be easily and precisely mounted into the carriage by the resilient locking member. Meanwhile, the pressure between the ink cartridge and the carriage can keep a stable contact between the contact electrode on the ink cartridge and the electrode on the carriage. Furthermore, this type of resilient locking member has less environment restriction. Only the ink supply port and the contact electrode fitting with the carriage is needed, the present invention has some more advantages than the prior art. First, in the prior art, the retaining member will take some space when the ink cartridge is mounted in the carriage. The retaining member is easy to be broken. However, in the present invention, there is a resilient locking member instead of the retaining member. The resilient locking member makes the electrical contact stable between the ink cartridge and the carriage. It also enlarges the capacity of the ink cartridge. Actually, the resilient locking member does not tend to be damaged. Furthermore, the ink cartridge according to the present invention can also comprise a passage for the signal light, or a supporting member for supporting the resilient locking member. In this situation, the ink cartridge can be used in various types of printer directly or indirectly. The present ink cartridge has merits of reasonable structure, low cost and simple way to assemble/disassemble.
