Abstract

An apparatus for operating LEDs, comprising a driver module (1) and an LED module (5) which is actuated by the driver module (1) and has at least two LEDs (LED1, LED2), wherein the driver module (1) comprises a switch controller, wherein at least in one operating mode a first LED (LED1) is actuated such that it is illuminated, and the second LED (LED2) during a reverse operation is used as a photodiode and receives at least part of the light of the first LED (LED1), and a measurement takes place at the second LED (LED2), wherein the measurement at the second LED (LED2) is used to determine an operating parameter of the LED module (5) and said measurement at the second LED (LED2) takes place while the second LED (LED2) is bypassed.
