Abstract

The invention relates to a device for welding components (17, 18) by double-shoulder friction stir welding, comprising a mixing pin (5), a lower shoulder (4) and an upper shoulder (3), the lower shoulder being mounted on the mixing pin in such a way that it can be immobilized in the bottom part (7) of the said mixing pin, the upper shoulder being mounted on the mixing pin in such a way that a position of the upper shoulder about the mixing pin can be set by compressing elastic means (12) arranged between the main body and the upper shoulder, according to a clamping force that is to be applied to the components that are to be welded. The invention also relates to a method of friction stir welding using a welding device according to the invention.
