Description

Warning arrangement on a level crossing
The invention relates to a warning arrangement on a level crossing, which arrangement is meant particularly for traffic guidance in connection with an unguarded level crossing and, which comprises a guiding assembly on a level crossing and a warning assembly, which has an at least data transmitting contact with the guiding assembly and that gets activated by an approaching train, in order to interrupt crossing traffic by means of the guiding assembly until the train has passed the level crossing.
The type of system described above is nowadays being used on level crossings that are controlled e.g. by barriers or by light and/or voice operated signals.
Nowadays warning arrangements are carried out by detectors that are placed underneath a track at a suitable distance from a level crossing, by influence of which guiding means on the level crossing get activated when the train goes over the detectors .
The type of arrangements described above are very difficult and expensive to carry out in practice particularly in remote places, wherein e.g. electricity is not available. Thus, when this kind of arrangements are employed rather fundamental installations and high investments are needed, in addition to which making sure of proper functioning of the arrangements under all circumstances requires service and maintenance measures to be performed regularly and with short enough intervals. Furthermore, during electricity breakes the type of arrangements in question are naturally out of use, in which case not any kind of information about an approaching train is transmitted to guiding means on a level crossing. An objective of a warning arrangement to be used particularly on a level crossing according to the present invention is to provide a decisive improvement in the problems described above and thus to raise essentially the level of prior art. In order to achieve this objective, a warning arrangement according to the invention is characterized in that the warning
arrangement is carried out by GPS-technique, whereby a warning assembly belonging thereto comprises a warning apparatus, being placed in a cab of a train and having at least one GPS-receiver, which is able to locate the train's position, and at least one transmitter that controls wirelessly a warning light post acting as the guiding assembly and, whereby the warning apparatus is being programmed at least with coordinates of level crossings and a control automatic, such as a timer, that controls activating of said transmitter.
As the most important advantages of the warning ' arrangement according to the invention may be mentioned the simplicity and operating reliability of its principle and the equipmentation applicable for the same. The warning arrangement according to the invention does not above all require massive after- installations on level crossings, nor electrifying thereof, because a warning arrangement according to the invention may be carried put in all respects to be operated e.g. by accumulators. Thus, e.g. electricity breakes or the like dysfunctioning situations do not endanger functioning of the warning arrangement, but instead it works reliably under all circumstances. Furthermore with a warning arrangement according to the invention it is possible to register defects manifested therein both for the part of the warning apparatus and the warning light posts on the level crossings. The functioning of a warning arrangement according to the invention may be furthermore secured by exploiting a stand-by-GPS arrangement e.g. in the warning apparatus as well as a fault detecting/registering automatic in the warning light posts. In the warning arrangement according to the invention it is furthermore possible to exploit a wind generator for charging of the accumulator for the warning light post, which for its part shortens significantly the need for service and maintenance of the equipmentation on a level crossing.
In the dependent claims related to the warning arrangement according to the invention advantageous embodiments of the warning arrangement according to the invention have been presented.
In the following description the invention has been described in detail with reference to the appended drawings, in which,
Figure 1 shows an advantageous circuit diagram of a timer belonging to a warning arrangement according to the invention,
Figure 2 shows an advantageous operating principle of a warning apparatus according to the invention,
Figure 3 shows an advantageous operating principle of stand-by arrangement, being exploited in a warning arrangement according to the invention,
Figure 4 shows an advantageous warning light post belonging to the warning arrangement according to the invention, and
Figure 5 shows an advantageous operating principle of a warning light post belonging to a warning arrangement according to the invention. The invention relates to a warning arrangement on a level crossing, which arrangement is meant particularly for traffic guidance in connection with an unguarded level crossing and, which comprises a guiding assembly 1 on a level crossing and a warning assembly 2, which has an at least data transmitting contact with the guiding assembly 1 and that gets activated by an approaching train in order to interrupt crossing traffic by means of the guiding assembly until the train has passed the level crossing. The warning arrangement is carried out by GPS-technique, whereby a warning assembly belonging thereto comprises a warning apparatus 2; 2a, being placed in a cab of a train and having at least one GPS-receiver 2al, which is able to locate the train's position, and at least one transmitter 2a2 that controls wirelessly a warning light post 1; Ia 'acting as the guiding assembly and, whereby the warning apparatus is being programmed at least with coordinates of level crossings and a control automatic 2a3, such as a timer, that controls activating of said transmitter.
As an advantageous embodiment with reference to figures 4 and 5 the warning light post 1; Ia is provided at least with a receiver IaI and electronic, light and/or voice operated warning devices Ia2 , such as with one or several e.g. LED-operated warning lamps and a loudspeaker.
Furthermore as an advantageous embodiment the warning apparatus 2; 2a comprises an alarm 2a4 in order to inform the train engine driver of an approaching unguarded level crossing by speaking and/or by means of a light and/or voice signal.
Furthermore as an advantageous embodiment with reference to figures 3 and 5 the warning arrangement comprises a stand-by arrangement X that operates with a later preset than the primary transmitter 2a2 and which comprises e.g. a receiver Xl that monitors the signal from the transmitter 2al, a stand-by GPS- receiver X2 and a stand-by transmitter X4 operating with a stand-by timer X3 , and advantageously a fault indicator transmitter X5 in the warning light post 1; Ia in order to report on a defect being manifested therein to the warning apparatus in the train's cab.
As a further advantageous embodiment the warning apparatus 2; 2a and/or the warning light post 1; Ia is provided advantageously with a fault detecting/registering automatic Al, A2 , accumulators A3, wind generators A4 and/or detectors A5 for noticing/registering of a passing situation of a train and a warning light post.
By means of the GPS-receiver belonging to the warning apparatus it is possible to determine train's distance from a level crossing with an accuracy less than 10 meters. By using usual GPS-devices it is possible to program the same with e.g. 50 turnable routes, in which e.g. thousand level crossings can be programmed.
A transmitter 2a2 belonging to the warning apparatus sends a signal to a warning light post 1; Ia in a beforehand programmed place, however, taking into account the train's speed, according to which an accurate sending point for the signal will be determined, so that the warning lights in the level crossing do not operate for a too long period, in case the train has to slow down its speed for some reason. The warning apparatus has furthermore been preprogrammed with coordinates of level crossings and a desired warning distance therefrom. The route to be driven at any given time may be chosen e.g. from a touch screen belonging to the warning apparatus . A stand-by arrangement X can be programmed to operate automatically and independently e.g. 50-100 meters closer to a level crossing. In case a train stops after transmission of a signal before a level crossing, the warning apparatus can send a new signal when the train starts moving again.
In principle the setup and operating principle of a warning apparatus shown as an example in figures 2 and 3 is e.g. as follows: it comprises two GPS-receivers 2al, X2, a receiver Xl, two transmitters 2a2, X2 , two timers 2a3, X3 , an accumulator A3 and an overcharging protector. From the signal that has been given at an approaching point by the primary GPS-receiver 2al control current is taken (from the loudspeaker wires) to a semi-conductor relay or transistor coupling, by means of which a timer 2a3, as shown in figure 1, and e.g. a voice recording microcircuit are controlled. The desired operating time of the transmitter is being adjusted by the timer 2a3, e.g. from 1 second to 40 minutes .
The stand-by GPS-device X2 can operate also on feedback principle together with the receiver Xl as a stand-by arrangement X e.g. on the principle shown in figure 3. In this case both of the GPS-receivers 2al, X2 are programmed e.g. simultaneously by means of the same touch screen. If an adequate signal from the primary transmitter 2a2 will not be received by the receiver Xl of the stand-by arrangement X, the stand-by arrangement sends a signal to the warning light post, gives a notice about that to the engine driver, in which case advantageously a marking is also left in a log and e.g. a red light is lit on a panel of the warning apparatus. In case the stand-by transmitter X4 does not get current from the train's devices, an accumulator coupled with the warning apparatus is switched on for its part and a warning light is lit. The functioning and setup of a warning light post belonging to a warning arrangement according to the invention is advantageously e.g. with reference to figures 4 and 5 as follows: - the warning light post blinks LED-lights and/or gives voice signals when it has received a coded radio signal until the train is close to the same or for a predetermined time,
- current to the LEDs is being monitored by means of an opto-isolator on a microcircuit, whereby the current for the primary side of the opto-isolator is taken from the upper end of the post,
- if the LEDs do not receive current when the post's receiver gets activated, the post's transmitter sends a differently coded message about the fault to a two- channel receiver of the train's stand-by arrangement and the post's stand-by arrangement starts,
- the accumulators and electronics are placed e.g. into a concrete base, in which the post is fastened e.g. by means of a hinged lid,
- in the upper end of the post there is furthermore advantageously a wind generator and a detector for detecting passing of a train,
- the device is battery-driven at least in those level crossings,* in which the electrifying is not possible with reasonable costs.
With reference to the operating diagram shown particularly in figure 1, when the relay REl shuts off for a moment by influence of the current coming from the GPS-receiver ' s loudspeaker, the condensator C2 starts to get charged through a potentiometer, adjusting the charging time, and the resistor Rl. During a charging period, the relay RE2 pulls and switches on the transmitter.
When the receiver Xl of the stand-by arrangement X2 gets a signal from the primary arrangement, the functional suppression of the stand-by arrangement shown in figure 3 prevents coupling of the coupler REl. If the signal is not received, the stand-by arrangement acts as the primary transmitter.
With reference to the operating diagram shown particularly in figure 5, the current passes under a stand-by situation only to the receiver and an electronic flashlight or beacon of white LEDs. When the receiver gets a signal from the train's transmitter, current passes from the timer to the relay RE3 , by pulling of which, a voice signal and a flashlight of red LEDs is switched on, whereby the receiver and the flashlight of white LEDs is simultaneously switched off. The blinking will carry on for a predetermined time or until a signal is received from the train passing detector, by means of which e.g. a 4-pin of IC- circuit NE 555 is grounded. When the receiver gets activated, the stand-by arrangement gets current as ' well, and in case the red LEDs do not get current at that time, the transmitter sends to the receiver of the train's transmitter unit a defect notification and the stand-by arrangement starts.
It is clear that the invention is not limited to the embodiments presented or described above, but it can be modified within the scope of protection defined by the independent claim.
