Description

PROCEDURE FOR PERSONAL VIDEO RECORDING SERVICE
CONSIDERING FOR THE AVAILABLE STORAGE OF THE MOBILE
DEVICE IN MOBILE IPTV ENVIRONMENT
Technical Field
The present invention relates to a procedure for Internet Protocol Television (hereinafter referred to as 'IPTV) Personal Video Recording (hereinafter referred to as 'PVR') service considering the storage space of a mobile terminal and, more particularly, to a method of providing PVR service considering the storage space of a mobile terminal in a mobile IPTV environment, which, when it is desired to use a PVR service in a mobile IPTV environment, can efficiently and accurately provide service through a procedure of providing notification of the currently available storage space in a user's mobile terminal and the size of content provided by a service provider.
Background Art
FIG. 1 is a diagram showing the construction of a typical system for IPTV service.
As shown in FIG. 1, the system for IPTV service includes a server system that includes an IPTV server 20, that is, a Service Provider (SP), for performing subscriber access management, and content data transmission control for providing IPTV service, a Streaming Server (SS) 20 for encoding content, which is transmitted to a user, to streaming data and transmitting the encoded data under the control of the IPTV server 10, and a content providing server 30, that is, a Content Provider (CP), for providing the content, an access network that includes a PSTN, a mobile communication network the like for supporting network communication based on the Internet Protocol (IP), subscriber access units that provide respective access points, such as a base station 41, an access point 42 and a Local Area Network (LAN) 43, and subscriber devices 50, such as a TV, a mobile terminal and a computer, that receive the IPTV service via the subscriber access units.
The IPTV service provided by the construction of the above-described system enables content, which is transmitted via a wired and wireless network in a streaming fashion using the Internet Protocol (IP), to be viewed via a TV set, and provides multimedia service, such as TV/video/audio/text data, which is transmitted via an IP -based network that provides a required level of Quality of Service/Quality of Experience (QoS/QoE), information protection, interactivity and reliability.
In this case, the PVR service is included in a principal service provided for the IPTV service. As well known, the PVR service is a service that enables multimedia content, such as a video, to be stored in a personal storage device (for example, a personal mobile terminal). In a mobile terminal that supports the use of the IPTV service to be used in a mobile environment in order to receive the PVR service of such IPTV service, storage space, which is provided for the purpose of storage of personal content, is generally limited due to limitations in size, technology and price. Accordingly, even if separate external memory, which is added to internal memory that is basically provided by the mobile terminal, is additionally provided, there is a problem in that a limitation in a storage space is ultimately limited when storing pieces of large-sized multimedia content, such as pictures, moving images and videos.
Furthermore, the conventional mobile IPTV service has been chiefly provided in a streaming service form, and content transmission is currently performed such that content encoded at a single bit rate is unconditionally transmitted or is provided through a procedure of merely determining whether a sufficient storage space is currently available in the terminal when the mobile IPTV service is provided, so that there is a problem in that the service cannot be provided in a state in which the user does not provide a storage space necessary for the corresponding content.
That is, in the conventional mobile IPTV service, when the user uses the PVR service, a method of enabling an appropriate size of content to be selected in consideration of the storage space of a mobile terminal is not provided, and thus the usage of the service is very inconvenient. This works as the most limitations in the PVR service.
Disclosure of the Invention
Technical tasks to be solved by the invention Accordingly, the present invention has been made keeping in mind the above problems occurring in the prior art, and an object of the present invention is to provide a method of providing a PVR service considering the storage space of a mobile terminal in a mobile IPTV environment, which, when the PVR service is used in the mobile IPTV environment, provides notification of the available storage space in a mobile terminal and the size of selected content, which can be provided, thus enabling a user to more effectively and accurately receive the PVR service by enabling the user to select content suitable for the available storage space of the mobile terminal and receive the PVR service.
Technical Solution
In order to accomplish the above object, a method of providing a PVR service considering the storage space of a mobile terminal in a mobile IPTV environment according to the present invention is characterized in that, when an IPTV PVR service user selects the storage of content, it checks currently available storage space in a mobile terminal, notifies a user of the size of content that can be provided by a service provider, and enables the user to select content that can be stored in the available storage space of the mobile terminal, thus enabling the user to more effectively receive the PVR service. The method of providing a PVR service considering the storage space of a mobile terminal in a mobile IPTV environment according to the present invention includes a service access process of the mobile terminal, which can receive the IPTV service, accessing an IPTV server; and a service provision process of, after the service access process, outputting a size of data of each piece of content for the PVR service, which is provided by the IPTV server, and a capacity of available storage space of the mobile terminal, and a user receiving and storing content having a capacity of data that can be stored.
The mobile terminal includes wired and wireless mobile communication terminals that can perform wired and wireless Internet communication. The service provision process comprises, when the size of data of the content is greater than the capacity of the available storage space of the mobile terminal, an edit screen provision step of editing stored data of the mobile terminal and obtaining an available space.
The service providing process outputs at least two types of different encoding bit rates when data for each piece of the provided content is output, thus enabling the user to select content, having an encoding bit rate suitable for a network environment, and receive the selected content.
Advantageous Effects When it is desired to receive the PVR service in an IPTV environment using a mobile terminal having strictly limited storage space for the user, unlike the conventional technology, in which the available storage space of the mobile terminal is not considered and the service is unconditionally provided only when available storage space exists, the method of providing PVR service considering the storage space of a mobile terminal according to the present invention, which is used to perform the above-described process provides necessary information and an opportunity for selection, which enable the user to selectively receive the VPR service, thus enabling the user to more effectively receive the PVR service in the IPTV service environment.
Brief Description of Drawings
FIG. 1 is a diagram showing the construction of a typical network for IPTV service; and FIG. 2 is a flowchart illustrating a method of providing a PVR service considering the storage space of a mobile terminal in a mobile IPTV environment, according to an embodiment of the present invention.
Best Mode for Carrying Out the Invention
The present invention is described in more detail below with reference to the accompanying drawings, which show a preferred embodiment of the present invention.
FIG. 2 is a flowchart illustrating a process in a method of providing PVR service considering the storage space of a mobile terminal in a mobile IPTV environment, according to an embodiment of the present.
As shown in FIG. 2, in the method of providing a PVR service considering the storage space of a mobile terminal in a mobile IPTV environment according to the present invention, a user accesses an IPTV server, which provides the IPTV PVR service, using the mobile terminal, which can receive the IPTV PVR service, at step Sl.
After the access has been completed by the user's mobile terminal at step Sl, the IPTV server transmits a list of PVR services, which can be provided, to the mobile terminal, and enables the mobile terminal to output the list and, then a user selects PVR service which provides desired content from among the various services provided by the IPTV server at step S2.
When the PVR service is selected by the user at step S2, the IPTV server that provides the PVR service transmits information about the size of desired content for the selected PVR service and the encoding of the content to the user's mobile terminal at step S3.
In this case, the user's mobile terminal searches the internal memory area thereof and checks the currently available storage space in the mobile terminal at step S4. The mobile terminal, which has checked the available storage space, receives the information about the size of content for the PVR service, which is desired by the user, and the encoding of the content, which is transmitted at step S3, and displays the two pieces of information, that is, the size of content for the PVR service, which is provided by the PVR server, and encoding information, and the size of storage space that is currently available in the user's mobile terminal on a display screen. In this process, menu items for executing a storage space editing function for obtaining sufficient storage space are output along with the displayed information at step S5.
The user compares the size of content for the PVR service, which is provided by the PVR server, the encoding information, and the currently available storage space, which are output to the display screen of the mobile terminal at step S5, and determines whether it is necessary to create more storage space at step S6.
If, as a result of the determination at step S6, it is determined that it is necessary to create storage space, the user obtains storage space by performing editing, such as deleting data stored in the memory area of the mobile terminal, through the selection of the menu items for executing the editing function for the storage space output to the display screen of the mobile terminal. Thereafter, the process returns to step S4 and the processing is repeated. That is, in this process, the user conducts a task of deleting or arranging content previously stored in the mobile terminal, and thus the available storage space of the mobile terminal can be obtained at step S7.
In contrast, if, as a result of the determination at step S6, it is determined that available storage space, in which the content for the PVR service selected by the user can be stored, remains in the mobile terminal or it is determined that available storage space, in which the content for the PVR service selected at step S2 can be stored, is obtained in the storage space of the mobile terminal through the editing of a storage space at step S 7, the user selects the content for the PVR service output to the display screen of the mobile terminal at step S8. In this process, the mobile terminal determines whether the content for the PVR service can be stored at step S9.
When content having a greater size than the available storage space is selected, the mobile terminal displays an alarm that indicates the insufficiency of storage space at step 10. In this case, the process returns to step S5, and the processing from step S5 to step S9 is repeated. Thereafter, the mobile terminal displays information about the currently available storage space and the size of the content and a screen through which the editing of the storage space of the mobile terminal can be selected.
In the case where, at step SlO, available storage space for the content for the PVR service selected by the user is created in the mobile terminal or content that can fit in the available storage space of the mobile terminal is selected, or if, as a result of the determination at step S9, it is determined that sufficient storage space to store the content of the PVR service selected by the user remains, the mobile terminal transmits a transmission request signal for the content for the PVR service to the IPTV server, receives selected content data from the IPTV server, and stores the received content data in the mobile terminal, at step SIl.
After step SI l, when it is desired to receive PVR service for additional content, the process returns to step S2, and the processing is repeated. When it is not desired to receive PVR service for the additional content, the processing is terminated at step S 12.
As described above, in accordance with the method of providing a PVR service considering the storage space of a mobile terminal in a mobile IPTV environment according to the present invention, the user can more effectively receive the PVR service. Although, in the above description of the present invention, a detailed embodiment has been described, various modifications may be made without departing from the scope of the present invention. Accordingly, the scope of the invention should be defined by the claims rather than the described embodiment.
Industrial Applicability
The present invention, described above, may be used for an IPTV PVR service.
