Abstract

The invention relates to a signal encoder (110) for generating N' parallel binary signals (C0, C1, C2, C3, C4) based on B information bits (b0, b1, b2,b3). Said encoder comprises a vector mapping device for the non-linear mapping of possible bit patterns of the B information bits to 2B signal combinations on the N' parallel binary signals, where N' is greater than B. The signal encoder for generating a plurality of individual modulation symbols based on B information bits comprises a vector mapping device for the non-linear mapping of possible bit patterns of the B information bits to various 2B combinations consisting of at least two individual modulation symbols, the various 2B combinations representing a real subset of a complete modulation alphabet. Said complete modulation alphabet is formed by a cross product of sets of actual occurring modulation values of the two individual modulation symbols. The concept according to the invention permits the digital transfer of information using a redundant space code, allowing information to be reliably transferred even if a rough quantization exists.
