Abstract

Rear-view device for a motor vehicle, situated on the outside of the said vehicle, comprising at least one vehicle speed sensor (10). The said device comprises a motorized variable-focal-length video camera (3) able to provide the driver with a view at least partially to the rear and to the side. The said camera (3) is connected to a screen (26) and coupled to a calculation means (11) comprising a determining means (13) able to determine the value of the focal length (f) of the camera from the speed detected by the said speed sensor (10) and a first adjusting means (15) able to adjust the focal length of the camera according to the said determined value.
