Abstract
A nanocomposite material containing a clay mineral disposed within a matrix selected from the group consisting of polymeric material, resin material, elastomeric material, ceramic material, and mixtures thereof. The clay mineral has a flexural strength of at least about 200 kilograms per square centimeter and a compressive strength of at least about 2,000 kilograms per square centimeter.
