AMENDED CLAIMS received by the International Bureau on 05 May 2006 (05.05.06)
19. An apparatus comprising a weapon sight that includes; structure configured to support said sight on a weapon; a detector portion that can detect a level of ambient illumination external to said sight; and a control portion coupled to said detector portion, said control portion being responsive to gaid detector portion for taking a selected action when a level of ambient illumination external to said sight is less than a selected level of illumination,
20. An apparatus according to Claim 19, wherein said selected level of illumination, represents a, level of illumination needed for safe weapon operation,
21. An apparatus according to Claim 19, wherein said sight included a display coupled to said control portion for displaying information that relates to aiming a weapon, said selected action including preventing the presentation on said display of the information that relates to aiming a weapon.
22. An apparatus according to Claim 19, wherein said weapon sight includes a warning indicator coupled to said control portion, said selected action including actuation of said warning indicator.
23- An apparatus according to Claim 22, wherein said eight has a field of view that relates to aiming a weapon; and wherein said warning indicator is a visible indicator that is disposed within said field of view.
24. An apparatus according to Claim 22, wherein said sight includes : an image detector coupled to said control portion and responsive to radiation originating externally of said sight, said image datector serving as said detector portion; and a display coupled to said control portion for displaying information that relates to aiming a weapon, including images detected by said image detector, said warning indicator being a visible indicator in the form of information presented on said display by said control portion,
25. A method of operating a weapon'-mαuntable sight having a detactor portion that can detect a level of ambient illumination external to aaid sight, comprising: 37
using said detector portion to determine a level of ambient illumination external to said sight; and taking a selected action in response to a determination that a level of ambient illumination external to said sight is less than, a selected level of illumination.
26. A method according to Claim 25, including setting said selected level of illumination to be a level of illumination needed for safe weapon operation.
27. A method according to Claim 25, including configuring said sight to have a display for displaying information that relates to aiming a weapon; and wherein said taking of said selected action includes preventing the presentation on said display of the information that relates to aiming a weapon.
28. A method according to Claim 25, said sight includes a warning indicator; and wherein said taking of said selected action includes actuating of said warning indicator.
29, A method according to Claim 28, wherein. ea.id sight has a field of view that relates to aiming a weapon; and including configuring said warning indicator to be a visible indicator disposed within said field of view.
30. A method according to Claim 28, including configuring said sight to have an image detector that is responsive to radiation originating external to said sight and that serves as said detector portion; including configuring said sight to have a display for displaying information that relates to aiming a weapon, including images detected by said image detector; wherein said using includes evaluating image information from said image detector to effect aaid determination of a level of ambient illumination external to aaid sight; and
Wherein said warning indicator is a visible indicator and said actuating thereof includes providing said warning indicator as a visible indicator in the form of information presented on said display.
