Abstract

Hydroxyl containing polymer, e.g., starch, polyester, e.g., polycaprolactone, blend comprising plasticized oxidized hydroxyl containing polymer crosslinked with polyester has elongation at break property greater than 50% of the polyester. The blend is prepared by admixing hydroxyl containing polymer, polyester, plasticizer and H2O2 and subjecting the admixture to reactive extrusion. By inclusion of nanoclay modified with organic cation, lower extrusion temperature can be used to obtain the stated elongation at break. Figure 1B is a graph of wt % organoclay versus elongation at break and shows results of Working Example I.
