Abstract

A tip reinforced electrosurgical device for removing tissue from a target site within or on a patient's body includes a shaft having proximal and distal end portions and an active screen electrode on the distal end portion. A return electrode includes arms that are interlocked with the shaft distal end portion. Interlocking features may include dimples, bends, slots, recess, apertures, threads. Adhesives may also be provided to increase the strength of the connection between the tip assembly and the shaft. The electrosurgical probe further includes at least one electrical connector extending through the shaft that connects the active electrode with a high frequency power supply. At least one electrical coupling member such as a ballwire secures the active screen electrode to the shaft distal end and electrically couples the screen electrode to the at least one electrical connector. An aspiration lumen within the shaft having a distal opening coupled to the active electrode may be provided to aspirate fluids and tissue fragments.
