Description

SEPARATION TYPE DISPLAY APPARATUS
TECHNICAL FIELD The present invention relates to a display apparatus, and more particularly to a separated display apparatus in which an image display unit and a broadcasting and A/V (audio and video) signal control unit are separated each other. The present invention also relates to a separated display apparatus of which an image display unit can be designed in various shapes.
BACKGROUND ART In a field of home display appliances having both audio and video performances, such as televisions or monitors, all the accessories are integrally installed in a single plastic casing. That is, a broadcasting and A/V (audio and video) signal control unit controlling various broadcasting signals and A/V signals and an image display unit are integrally mounted in a single casing to constitute one television set. Image display units have been developed from cathode ray tubes (CRT) conventionally used widely to liquid crystal display (LCD) devices, plasma display panel (PDP) devices, etc., which is decreased in thickness and can be installed in a small space. However, the image display units themselves have been decreased in thickness, but the whole television sets have not been decreased in size, thereby staying in the structure where the image display unit and the broadcasting and A/V signal control unit are mounted integrally in a single casing. On the other hand, the conventional television sets described above have the following problems. First, since the image display unit and the broadcasting and A/V signal control unit are mounted in a single plastic casing, there is a problem that product designs are restricted. Second, since the image display unit and the broadcasting and A/V signal control unit are mounted integrally in a single casing, it is difficult to decrease the thickness and the weight of the television body. Third, since the image display unit and the broadcasting and A/V signal control unit are mounted integrally in a single casing, the amount invested in metal patterns is too large in development of products. Fourth, when one of the image display unit and the broadcasting and A/V signal control unit is out of order, the whole television set is discarded. Fifth, since the products come to the market only can be used without any change, there is no chance that users can directly decorate and assemble the television sets. Sixth, since speakers are mounted inside the conventional television sets, outputs of the speakers are restricted.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS FIG. 1 is a perspective view illustrating a separated display apparatus according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention; FIG. 2 is a block diagram schematically illustrating the separated display apparatus shown in FIG. 1 ; FIG. 3 is a block diagram illustrating a broadcasting and A/V (audio and video) signal control unit of the separated display apparatus shown in FIG. 1 ; and FIG. 4 is a front view of an image display unit of the separated display apparatus shown in FIG. 1.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION Technical Goal of the Invention The present invention provides a separated display apparatus of which the thickness and weight can be decreased by separating an image display unit and a broadcasting and A/V signal control unit each other, thereby realizing various designs.
Disclosure of the Invention According to an aspect of the present invention, there is provided a separated display apparatus comprising an image display unit and a broadcasting and A/V (audio and video) signal control unit, wherein the image display unit and the broadcasting and A/V signal control unit are separately provided in different casings and are connected each other through a connector. Here, the image display unit may comprise a display module and an inverter board. Further, the display module may be a liquid crystal display (LCD) module. On the other hand, the broadcasting and A/V signal control unit may comprise a main printed circuit board (PCB), a sub PCB, a power supply, and input and output terminals. Further, the broadcasting and A/V signal control unit may further comprises a speaker or a remote receiver. Furthermore, the circumferential edge of the image display unit may be provided with a decorative frame.
Effect of the Invention As described above, in the separated display apparatus according to the embodiments of the present invention, it is possible to obtain the following advantages. First, since the image display unit and the broadcasting and A/V signal control unit are installed separately, restriction on the casing design of a television or a monitor is removed, so that the casings can be freely designed and the thickness and the weight thereof can be decreased. Therefore, the television or the monitor can be easily hung on a wall without any particular fixing member. Second, since the image display unit and the broadcasting and A/V signal control unit are separated each other, it is possible to remarkably reduce cost for newly manufacturing or adjusting metal patterns for injection molding of the casings when improving or expanding functions of the components thereof. Third, when only a part of the image display unit and the broadcasting and A/V signal control unit is replaced or repaired, only the corresponding part can be separated and replaced or repaired, so that it is possible to reduce cost for A/S (after service) or upgrade thereof. Fourth, since various decorations can be provided on the outer circumferential edge of the image display unit correspondingly to tastes of a user, it is possible to obtain an effect of interior design and to perform various functions as an electronic album, a clock, a radio receiver, etc. in accordance with the A/V signals from the control unit. Fifth, since the speaker is connected to the control unit, restriction on specifications of the speaker is removed, so that restriction on the speaker output can be overcome and the 5.1 channel speaker can be supported. BEST MODE FOR CARRYING OUT THE INVENTION Hereinafter, exemplary embodiments of the present invention will be described in detail with reference to the attached drawings. FIG. 1 is a perspective view illustrating a separated display apparatus according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, FIG. 2 is a block diagram illustrating the whole construction of the separated display apparatus shown in FIG. 1 , and FIG. 3 is a block diagram illustrating a broadcasting and A/V (audio and video) signal control unit of the separated display apparatus shown in FIG. 1. Referring to FIG. 1 , the separated display apparatus according to the exemplary embodiment of the present invention comprises an image display unit 100 displaying images and a broadcasting and A/V signal control unit 300 receiving broadcasting signals and controlling video signals including information on the images displayed in the image display unit and audio signals including information on sounds output through a speaker in synchronism with the video signals. As shown in the figure, in the separated display apparatus according to the present invention, the image display unit 100 and the broadcasting and A/V signal control unit 300 are separately provided in different casings, not integrally provided in a single casing. The image display unit 100 and the broadcasting and A V signal control unit 300 separately provided are connected each other through a connector through which power and signals are transmitted therebetween. The connector may be a 30-pin connector, but is not limited to it. The elements of the separated display apparatus shown in FIG. 1 will be described more apparently with reference to FIG. 2. The image display unit 100 indicated by a dotted line may a display module, which is preferably a liquid crystal display (LCD) module 102, and an inverter board 104 supplying power to the LCD module 102. The display module may be a plasma display panel (PDP) module, otherwise. Since the LCD module 102 has been well-known as a conventional art, the details thereof will not be described. Simply viewing the structure thereof, the LCD module 102 generally comprises a panel in which liquid crystal is injected between a substrate and a substrate, a driving circuit section including a printed circuit board (PCB) to which a driver large scale integrated circuit (LSI) driving the panel and various circuit elements are attached, and a chassis including a back light unit. The broadcasting and A/V signal control unit 300, which is electrically connected to the image display unit 100 constructed as described above through the connector 200 and controls the broadcasting signals and the A/V signals, is mounted in a different casing. Therefore, the image display unit 100 and the broadcasting and A/V signal control unit 300 can be installed apart from each other by a distance which the connector 200 can permit. That is, the image display unit 100 may be freely installed at any place where the image display unit is visible well or people can watch the image display unit in an office as well as a living room, a bed room, or a kitchen, and the broadcasting and A/V signal control unit 300 may be installed separately from the image display unit. As shown in FIG. 2, the broadcasting and A/V signal control unit 300 comprises a main printed circuit board (PCB) 350, a sub PCB 352, a power supply 354 supplying power, and input and output terminals 360, and may further comprise a speaker 356 outputting sound signals and a remote receiver 358 receiving operation signals from a remote controller. The broadcasting and A/V signal control unit 300 shown in the left side of FIG. 2 includes the representative elements listed exemplarily and may include additional elements as needed. That is, since the broadcasting and A/V signal control unit 300 has no restriction on design and mechanism compared with a case where it is mounted in a single casing together with the image display unit, it is still easier to improve functions thereof and to develop a complex product. Therefore, the broadcasting and A/V signal control unit 300 can be preferably applied to a simple television or a monitor and in addition may constitute various complex products such as TV/DVDP (digital video disk player) combo, TV/DVDR (DVD rewriter) combo, TV/HDR (hard disk recorder) combo, TV/SVR (satellite video receiver) combo, TV/KARAOKE combo, etc. by means of combination with different video/sound mediums. FIG. 3 shows a block diagram schematically illustrating internal circuits of the broadcasting and A/V signal control unit 300 with basic specifications. The broadcasting and A/V signal control unit 300 receives operational signals input externally through a KEY/IR 336 and a key buffer 334, and allows a microcomputer 338 to deliver the control signals corresponding to the operational signals to an image or sound processing device, thereby allowing, for example, a sound processor 322 to control an amplifier 320, a speaker 318, and a headphone 314. Since the image display unit 100 and the broadcasting and A/V signal control unit 300 are separated, the image display unit 100 may be constructed to have a thickness of 25 mm or less and a weight of 2 kg or less. In addition, since a plastic casing having a predetermined shape for fixing the LCD module 102 and the inverter board 104 is not necessarily required, a user may construct the image display unit in DIY (do it yourself) manner. Therefore, general users as well as television or monitor manufactures may decorate the casing of the image display unit 100 with various materials such as wood, glass, aluminium, leather, stone, ceramics, etc. As a result, as shown in FIG. 4, a decorative frame 140 may be mounted on the circumferential edge of the image display unit 100 to surround the panel 120. Here, the decorative frame 140 can be designed with various materials described above. If a predetermined function is added to the broadcasting and A/V signal control unit 300 and predetermined image or moving pictures are transmitted to the image display unit 100, the image display unit 100 may serve as an electronic album or a large clock. A function of a radio receiver can be added using the speaker. While the present invention has been particularly shown and described with reference to exemplary embodiments thereof, it will be understood by those skilled in the art that various changes in form and details may be made therein without departing from the spirit and scope of the present invention as defined by the appended claims.
