The inventive method for automatically adapting a display of Internet documents comprises interaction elements which are easily accessible for a user and involves the following stages: the stage for searching (204) the interaction elements in said Internet documents, the stage for modifying (205) the visual attributes of the interaction elements of the Internet documents, the stage for displaying (207) the Internet documents containing the interaction elements together with the modified visual attributes. In the preferred embodiment, said method also involves a stage (208, 209) for checkpointing an interaction element by the user and stage for modifying the visual attributes by magnifying the visual attributes at least of the part of the interaction elements, for example in order to use with a touch-sensitive screen. In the preferred embodiment, said method also involves, during checkpointing, a stage for searching the interaction elements provided with an input field (210), and if the selected interaction element comprises the input field, a virtual keyboard displaying stage is carried out.

Description

PROCEDE ET DISPOSITIF D'ADAPTATION AUTOMATIQUE D'AFFICHAGE DE DOCUMENTS INTERNET METHOD AND DEVICE FOR AUTOMATIC ADAPTATION OF INTERNET DOCUMENT DISPLAY
It applies, in particular, to navigation via a touch screen and to screens intended for the visually impaired and disabled. When a webmaster or software publisher wants the human-machine interfaces or screens displayed to users to be used with touch screens or by the visually impaired or disabled, it is currently obliged to provide a version of its software specially dedicated to these uses. Indeed, the dimensions of the characters and interaction elements (for example the hypertext links) of the standard versions of the software allow neither a good visualization by a visually impaired person, nor a good selection with a touch screen (the dimension of the finger tip is too large) or by a disabled person. Due to the cost of these specific adaptations and the low market they represent, few software or websites are suitable for these uses and can only be used with pointing devices capable of discriminating pixels, for example mice . The present invention aims to remedy these drawbacks. To this end, the present invention relates, according to a first aspect, to a method for automatically adapting the display of an Internet document comprising interaction elements accessible to a user, characterized in that it comprises: - a step for searching for elements of interaction in said Internet document
Thanks to these provisions, the adaptation of the Internet document, human-machine interface or site page, is carried out automatically, in real time. For example, the modifications of visual attributes are enlargements of the size of the interaction elements, which makes them usable by a disabled person, a visually impaired person and / or with a touch screen. The present invention thus makes it possible to consult a website on an information terminal with a touch screen, without keyboard, mouse or trackball (in French pointing ball). The invention also makes it possible to create a web service or information site (in French the web) which is available both on the web and on terminals. The present invention also allows the use of tablet PCs, without keyboard, mouse or trackball, by pointing with the finger or a stylus. The present invention transforms mouse ergonomics, to which the main pages developed with web tools are dedicated, to tactile ergonomics, automatically and immediately. According to particular characteristics, the method as succinctly described above further comprises a step of pointing an interaction element by said user and the step of modifying visual attributes performs an enlargement of visual attributes. at least part of the interaction elements. According to particular characteristics, said pointing step is carried out with a touch screen. Thanks to each of these provisions, the user can easily select a displayed interaction element. According to particular characteristics, the method as succinctly set out above comprises, in addition, during the pointing step, a step of searching for interaction elements comprising an input area and if the interaction element selected is an interaction element comprising an input area, a step of displaying a virtual keyboard is carried out. Thanks to these provisions, the virtual keyboard, which allows the entry of free text or symbols, is automatically displayed when the user needs it. According to particular characteristics, the method as succinctly set out above comprises a configuration step during which the value of at least one parameter is defined and the modifications of visual attributes made during the modification step d 'visual attributes depend on each parameter value defined during the configuration step. Thanks to these provisions, the method can be adapted to different touch screens, different pointing means or different levels of visually impaired or handicap. According to particular characteristics, said configuration step comprises a step of selecting, on a graphic element, a main enlargement factor of the interaction elements. According to particular characteristics, said modification step comprises a first step of modification of visual attributes of the interaction elements which takes account of at least one parameter, each parameter being defined for at least one type of interaction element and a second step of modifying visual attributes of non-interactive elements which takes account of at least one parameter, each parameter being defined for at least one type of non-interactive element. Thanks to these provisions, the design of the Internet document can remain harmonious while particularly emphasizing the elements of interaction. The present invention aims, according to a second aspect, an automatic adaptation device for displaying an Internet document comprising interaction elements accessible to a user, characterized in that it comprises: - a means of searching for the elements interaction in said Internet document; - a means of modifying visual attributes of interaction elements of said Internet document and - a means of displaying said Internet document comprising the elements of interaction with modified visual attributes. The advantages, aims and particular characteristics of this device being similar to those of the method as succinctly described above, they are not repeated here. Other advantages, aims and characteristics of the present invention will emerge from the description which follows, given, with an explanatory and in no way limiting aim, with reference to the appended drawings in which: - Figure 1 shows, schematically, an embodiment particular of the adaptation device object of the present invention; FIG. 2 represents a flow diagram of steps implemented to implement a particular embodiment of the adaptation method which is the subject of the present invention, and - Figures 3 to 5 show visual assemblies before and after modification by particular embodiments of the method and / or the adaptation device objects of the present invention. Before describing the figures, definitions of terms used in the description are given below. Throughout the description, "Internet document" is a set of visual elements (for example text, images, buttons, etc.) displayed on the screen by means of a program called navigation software on Internet or browser, for example Netscape, Internet Explorer, Mozilla (registered trademarks). Every Internet document has an address called URL (acronym for Uniform Resource Locator). For example, a file in HTML (HyperText Markup Language) format is an Internet document. The Internet document can be on the user's machine (local) or on another machine (remote). Throughout the description, "element of interaction" is an element present in the Internet document which allows the user to communicate with the browser and gives the possibility of interacting with the document. For example, a hyperlink is an element of interaction. By clicking on a link, the user goes to another position in the document or to another document. An editing area is also an interaction element. By entering data in the area, the user provides information to the browser. Throughout the description, an element present in the Internet document that plays no role of interaction between the user and the browser is called a "non-interactive element". It is an exclusively visual element. For example, text without a hyperlink is a non-interactive element. Before describing the figures, a description is given below of the mode of operation of the particular embodiments illustrated in the figures. Each interaction element (links, editing areas, etc.) and each non-interactive element (text, non-clickable image, etc.) of an Internet document is associated with a set of visual attributes or parameters. . In the embodiments illustrated in the figures, the link is characterized by the values of seven parameters (defined, in HTML code by "border-style", "height", "border-width", "padding-right", "padding -left "," padding-top "and" padding-bottom "). The editing area can be characterized by two parameters which relate to the size of the font used and the height of the editing area. Each element in the generic sense (links, edit areas) have their own parameters (in the sense of the characteristic like border-style ...). It may be characterized by one or more parameters common to several elements, such as "height". Thus, each element, in the generic sense (interaction element or non-interactive element), has its own parameter values. To modify (in the embodiments below, to enlarge) all the elements of an Internet document or "page", the values of all the parameters which characterize the visual attributes are enlarged. There is indeed an enlargement factor which serves as a benchmark for enlargement. For this purpose, different magnification factors are used. The main reference magnification factor F1 is defined by the positioning of a virtual potentiometer (see step 217, FIG. 2). This main factor F1 constitutes a benchmark. Each interaction element or each non-interactive element is characterized by parameters. Each parameter is associated with a coefficient (secondary magnification factor) F2i, i varying from 1 to n where n is the total number of parameters. In the illustrated embodiments, for the link, there are therefore six coefficients F2i (because the notion of "border-style" is not subject to enlargement). The modified (or enlarged) value of a parameter is obtained by multiplying the value of the parameter by the main magnification factor F1 and divided by coefficient F2i of said parameter. Several parameters of an element may have the same value of coefficient F2i. It is also possible that two elements in the generic sense (a link, an editing area) have, for some of the parameters which characterize them, identical coefficients F2i. This is often the case when the coefficients F2i relate to visual attribute parameters which represent the same characteristic or quantity such as the size of a font. All these sizes F1 and F2i serve to maintain a homogeneous scale factor for the enlargement and make it possible to take into account the difference in nature of the sizes such as a font size and such as the height of a button. In order to respect the visual of the page, the adaptation of non-interactive elements may not take these coefficients into account or take into account in addition the context in positional terms (the adaptation of a non-interactive element then being a function of its position in the page or its position vis-à-vis other elements, interactive or not) and / or in relational terms (the element is linked to another element, interactive or not, the adaptation of the element not interactive then being a function of the existence of at least one relation with another element and / or of the nature of this relation). This is for example the case of cells (non-interactive elements) of a table comprising interaction elements. The modification of a link (interaction element) present in a cell modifies, for example, the visual attributes (width and height) of said cell so that the link can be fully visible after its adaptation. Respecting the visual can then lead to the modification of the other cells of the table. We observe, in FIG. 1, on the one hand, an information terminal 100 (forming an adaptation device within the meaning of the present invention) comprising a central unit 105, a display screen 110, a touch screen 115, a modem 120 and a program memory 125, and, on the other hand, a site server 150 comprising a page memory 155 and a modem 160, said information terminal 100 and said site server 150 being connected by a network of communication 140. The central unit 105 is of known type. For example, it is a central personal computer (in English personal computer or PC). The display screen 110 is of known type. It is, for example, a cathode ray tube screen (in English cathod ray tube or CRT), a liquid crystal screen (in English liquid crystal display or LCD) or a plasma screen. The display screen 110 is suitable for displaying visual assemblies (for example internet pages in HTML or XML language) comprising interaction elements (for example hypertext links, input zones, buttons, etc.) . The touch screen 115 is of known type. It is coupled to the display screen to allow the selection, by a user, of an interaction element displayed by the display screen 110. As a variant, the information terminal implements other means of pointing as the touch screen, such as a mouse, for example. The modem 120 and the modem 160 allow the information terminal 100 and the server 150 to communicate via the communication network 140, for example to allow the user of the information terminal 100 to navigate on a website maintained by the server 150, to consult and / or generate electronic mails. The program memory 125 stores, inter alia and in addition to a touch screen control driver and a display driver on the display screen 110, on the one hand, Internet browsing software or browser and, on the other hand, software implementing the method which is the subject of the present invention. For example, the software implementing the method which is the subject of the present invention implements the steps illustrated with reference to FIG. 2. In general, this latter software implements the following steps, to automatically adapt the display of an Internet document (page of an information site kept by the information terminal or page of a site kept by the server 150): - a step of searching for elements of interaction in said Internet document
Cependant, conformément à des caractéristiques particulières de la présente invention, ces éléments non interactifs sont aussi modifiés pour les raisons suivantes :(for example hyperlinks, buttons and input areas); a step for modifying visual attributes of interaction elements of said Internet document without adding any interaction element (for example by enlarging these interaction elements) and a step for displaying said Internet document comprising the elements of interaction with modified visual attributes, on the display screen 115. The communication network 140 is, for example, the Internet, and allows numerous user stations and information terminals to access numerous Internet sites , to electronic mailboxes, etc. The information terminal 100 constitutes a particular embodiment of an automatic adaptation device for displaying an Internet document comprising interaction elements accessible to a user, object of the present invention, which comprises: a means of searching for elements of interaction in said Internet document, means constituted by the central unit 105, the program memory amme 125 and the modem 120; - Means for modifying visual attributes of interaction elements of said Internet document without adding interaction element, means constituted by the central unit 105 and the program memory 1 5; a means of displaying said Internet document comprising the elements of interaction with modified visual attributes, means constituted by the central unit 105, the program memory 125 and the display screen 110. It can be observed that the adaptation is configurable by document model. A document model is a computer file which contains the definition of adaptation, that is to say information allowing the modification of the visual attributes of the interaction elements and of the non-interactive elements. For example, this file contains F2i magnification factors and / or a Boolean value meaning that the links must be framed, or not. There is no limit to the number of document templates. There is a standard document template which is, by default, taken into account for all Internet documents. It is possible to associate an Internet page or document or a set of Internet pages or documents with a document template. Interaction elements define all the elements that serve as an interface between man and machine. So that they can easily interact with the pointing device, these elements are enlarged in accordance with the method and the device which are the subject of the present invention. Without being exhaustive, these interaction elements include: - links, - editing areas, - radio buttons, - checkboxes (in French check box), - buttons, - comboboxes (in French list with editing area) and - clickable images, that is to say images associated with a hypertext link. Non-interactive elements define all the elements on a page that do not serve as an interface between man and machine. However, in accordance with particular features of the present invention, these non-interactive elements are also modified for the following reasons:
Or to take into account the context of the interaction elements and avoid side effects which imply: - the non-interactivity of an interaction element (for example the enlargement of a combobox (interaction element) contained in the cell (non-interactive element) of an array can imply a truncated combobox and therefore make it non-interactive if the cell of the array is smaller than the combobox). - a display disturbance (for example the increase in a button (interaction element) can shift a line (non-interactive element) which is close to it inducing an imperfectly rectilinear line).
Visuel exemple en code HTML.2 / Either to respect a visual in adequacy with the modifications of visual attributes of the interaction elements (for example, when the interaction elements are significantly increased, the text of the document must also be modified), Without being exhaustive, the non-interactive elements include: - the text without hypertext link, - the non-clickable images, etc. In FIG. 2, we observe a configuration step 201 of the operation according to the method which is the subject of the present invention. During step 201, we define, in in particular, a primary magnification factor F1 and the secondary magnification factors F2i explained above. Then, during a navigation step 202, the user navigates, by implementing Internet navigation software, in a set of pages or Internet documents stored locally or accessible remotely, for example on the Internet. The electronic address of a document called URL (Uniform Resource Location) can be communicated to the browser either by typing, by selection from a menu or combobox, or by favorites, or by another Internet document, or by pointing to a link (see step 213). Each page constitutes an Internet document comprising interaction elements allowing a user to navigate, consult or generate operations, for example e-mails or online transactions. During a loading step 203, parameters for adapting the page are loaded. Knowing the URL address of the internet document makes it possible to load the document model associated with it. If there is no associated template, then the standard document template is used to configure the adaptation. During a search step 204, an inventory is made of the elements of the page. We are looking in particular for the interaction elements of the page. For example, for an Internet document in HTML, the search for interaction elements consists in searching for HTML tags. For example, a link is an <A HREF=...> ... </A> tag. We are also looking for non-interactive elements. For example, an array is defined by the <TABLE> and <TD> tags. This inventory step allows the constitution of the cartography of the elements sought with for each the determination of their existing visual attributes (in particular the position and the dimensions) and the identification of their relationships with other elements. During a modification step 205, visual attributes of the interaction elements are modified. For example, we apply to them the magnification coefficient F1 and the secondary magnification factor F2i for each parameter considered and / or we frame them and / or we separate them from each other and / or we modify the font and / or color. We thus obtain an enlargement and a development of each interaction zone allowing, for example, the use of a touch screen with a finger or a stylus. For example, for an Internet document in HTML, the modification of the visual attributes which are mainly geometrical properties consists in adding visual attributes and or to modify existing visual attributes of HTML tags. For the link, it is possible in particular to add the following visual attributes: - border-style (in French, border style), - height (in French height), - border-width (in French border height), - padding-right (in white French or right margin), - padding-left (in French white or left margin), - padding-top (in French white or top margin) and - padding-bottom (in French white or bottom margin). For example, the visual elements displayed in the left column of the following table correspond to a definition in HTML language given in the right column. The first line of the table corresponds to an interaction element before the modification of its visual attributes and the second line of the table corresponds to the same interaction element after a modification of its visual attributes. Visual example in HTML code.

Puis, on retourne à l'étape 202. During a modification step 206, the visual attributes of the non-interactive elements are modified. For example, the font is modified by taking into account the main magnification factor F1 and the secondary magnification factor F2i specific to each parameter for the non-interactive element considered. These modifications are carried out in the same way as for the interaction elements. As explained above, it is possible in some cases to ignore these coefficients or to take into account the context of the element. This is for example the case of the membership relation, that is to say when the non-interactive element (example: a cell) contains an interaction element (examples: a link, a combobox ...) then the minimum dimensions of the non-interactive element are dependent on that of the interaction element. During the refresh step 207, the display of the page on the display screen is refreshed. During a step 208, it is determined whether a pointing has been carried out. Otherwise, step 208 is repeated, If yes, during step 209, it is determined whether the pointing was made on an interaction element (With his input device, the user can activate an element d 'interaction.). If so, during a step 210, it is determined whether the interaction element is an input area. If so, during a step 211, the virtual keyboard is displayed, for example at the bottom of the display screen. Thus, if the user clicks on an interaction element which has the function of entering alphanumeric information, then a virtual keyboard automatically appears on the screen. Then, during a step 212, the user enters the symbols he wishes to enter and we return to step 208 after eliminating the virtual keyboard. It is observed that the validation on the keyboard ("enter" or "enter" key) can correspond to a pointing of a navigation element (see step 213). If the result of step 210 is negative, the interaction element is a navigation element whose processing is carried out, step 213. Thus, if the user clicks on an interaction element which has the function of navigating in Internet documents, then navigation takes place. Then, we return to step 202. If the result of step 209 is negative, that is to say if the pointing was made outside of an interaction element, during a step 215, a selection is processed in a browser menu adapted to the pointing device, a scrollbar, step 216 and / or a potentiometer, step 217. The user uses this menu, this scrollbar and / or this potentiometer to modify at least one operating parameter of the device and we return to step 203. Thus, with his input device, the user can interact outside the navigation area (menu, scrollbar, adaptation potentiometer). The browser has classic functions for browsing the Internet. These functions are activated by pressing a button outside the navigation area, a button whose dimensions are adapted to the input devices. Some of the functions, such as "Search", "Favorites" ... induce navigation. The adaptation potentiometer has the function of modifying the adaptation parameters in real time, by the user. The potentiometer makes it possible to decrease or increase quantities, which is expressed in particular visually by a reduction or an enlargement of the interaction elements contained in the Internet document. For example, for an Internet HTML document, if it was chosen to treat the link according to the code presented in step 5, then the potentiometer acts by decreasing or increasing the value 20 used four times in the second row, column right of this table.
Au contraire, elle s'applique à tout ordinateur, tablettesIt is observed that a button can replace the potentiometer described in the description and provide the same functionality, with parameter values F1 varying continuously or discretely. The present invention is applicable to any pointing device. For a mouse, a trackball (in French pointing ball) or a stylus, the adaptation overcomes the precision of the order of a pixel and induces a great flexibility of use. For a less precise device such as the finger via a touch screen, the adaptation makes it possible to browse Internet documents which have been produced for a mouse interface. FIG. 3 shows diagrammatically an internet page 300 of a search engine (google, registered trademark), as it appears with a Microsoft Internet Explorer browser (registered trademarks). FIG. 4 shows diagrammatically the internet page 400 of a search engine illustrated in FIG. 3, as it appears after modification of the visual attributes, in accordance with an embodiment of the present invention. It can be seen, by comparing FIGS. 3 and 4, that the interaction elements 310, which were small, difficult to identify and very close to one another, have become the interaction elements 410 of larger dimension, framed by frames 420 and separated from each other by a sufficient distance for a touch screen to discriminate them. FIG. 5 shows diagrammatically the internet page 500 of a search engine illustrated in FIG. 4, as it appears when the user selects an input area with a pointing device. We see that a virtual keyboard 530 has been added at the bottom of the page displayed. The present invention is not limited to the use of touch screens but extends, on the contrary, to all pointing devices which are less precise than the mouse and, for example for the handicapped or visually impaired, to the use of the mouse. The present invention is not limited to information terminals and computers for the disabled or visually impaired. On the contrary, it applies to any computer, tablets
