Abstract

Normally, double-layer capacitors consist of a cathode and an anode as an energy storage element with electrodes, facing each other, and an electrolyte placed in between. According to the invention, a double-layer capacitor is designed as a thin-layer element, whereby the thickness of the electrodes amounts to 5-500 µm, so that a total thickness of the element of less than 1 mm may be obtained. The energy storage element can be directly installed in a housing (1), or on a housing wall of an apparatus to be supplied with energy, in particular, a mobile phone (10), whereby a double-layer capacitor (12) is integrated in a mobile phone shell (11) as a back-up energy storage element.
