Abstract

The invention relates to a communication module (10) comprising a receiving device (11) for a conductor (12) used for transmitting optical signals, a substrate (13; LTCC) with electrical connections and/or components, at least some of said electrical connections being configured for transmitting electrical signals, and an electro-optical unit (15) converting optical signals into electrical signals and/or vice versa. Said electro-optical unit (15) is coupled to the substrate, and the optical reaction surface thereof is arranged in or parallel to an electrical signal plane of the electro-optical unit (15) and the substrate (13). In order to improve the characteristics of the module, the conductor (12) is disposed in such a way that the output direction of optical signals from the conductor (12) lies in an optical plane which is decoupled from the electrical plane and is different therefrom in a non-parallel manner, particularly perpendicular thereto, the optical signals running through an optical opening in the substrate.
