"Method for the decoration of the eyelashes and composition suitable therefor".
Technical Field The present invention relates to a method to decorate the eyelashes in a new way and a cosmetic composition useful in carrying out such decoration.
More particularly, the invention concerns a new eyelash make-up that provides the distribution of some droplets of a liquid composition of suitable viscosity on the tip of the eyelashes to obtain an effect of considerable luminosity about the eyes.
Background of the invention
Mascara is commonly used as a means to make up the eyelashes. It is generally black or brown in colour, but also various and impressive colours are used which allow the eyelashes to be thickened and curved. Also known, even though less used, are mascara-glitters which deposit small luminescent particles on the eyelashes.
Summary of the invention
It has now been found that it is possible to manufacture a new type of make-up which provides the depositing of some droplets of a composition of suitable viscosity on the distal end of the eyelashes, obtaining a "dew effect" that causes reflection of the light in different directions and results in considerable luminosity about the eyes.
Detailed description of the invention Thus according to one of its aspects, the invention relates to a method to make up the eyelashes which includes depositing some small droplets of a transparent cosmetic composition of suitable viscosity on the distal end of the eyelashes.
Any transparent cosmetic composition, which can be positioned on
the tip of the eyelashes and remains fixed there and unchanged in the form of drops, is suitable for the method of the invention. The transparent cosmetic composition according to the invention preferably has a viscosity of between 350 cPs (mPa/s) and 40000 cPs, preferably between 2000 and 20000 cPs, advantageously of about 12000 cPs.
The viscosity is determined by conventional viscometers, for example with a Brookfield viscometer. Some of the transparent cosmetic compositions of suitable viscosity according to the invention include, for example, one or more film- forming polymers, in solvents for cosmetic use.
As "film-forming polymers", for example, polyvinyl alcohol, carbomer, acrylic copolymers, cross-polymer acrylates/ C 10-30 alkyl acrylates, polyacrylic acid, glyceryl polymethacrylate, dibenzylidene sorbitol, can be used and more in general the compounds and/or polymers able to increase the viscosity of a solution, optionally in admixture with each other, and/or in admixture with substances that help their dissolution such as for example propylene glycol, butylene glycol, glycerine. In the present description "solvent for cosmetic use" designates a solvent suitable for the make up of the eyelashes, preferably a nonalcoholic not oily and volatile solvent; advantageously water is used as a solvent, for example purified or distilled water. The term "transparent" in the present invention means that the composition is not opaque and does not absorb light but, on the contrary, reflects it in several directions.
The transparent composition according to the invention is preferably colourless but, if desired, can also be of different colours, provided that once applied it diffuses the light in different directions.
The transparent cosmetic composition according to the invention as well as its use in the decoration of the eyelashes and more generally in make-up, constitute an additional purpose of the invention. This composition may also include some conventional excipients in cosmetic practice, such as for example some preservatives or colouring agents.
For example parabens can be used as preservatives, such as propyl- and methyl-paraben, or sodium dehydroacetate or their mixtures. The relative amounts of film-forming polymers and solvent, depend on the particular chemical-physical characteristics of the polymer or the mixture of polymers used as well as on the solvent selected. To obtain the dew effect of the invention, it is important that the composition, once applied to the tip of the eyelashes, stays in position in the form of small spherical droplets and does not "run" along the eyelashes. Preferably, an amount of film-forming polymers of between 5 and 50% is used, advantageously between 10 and 40%, for example about 15%. Unless otherwise indicated, the percentage amounts in the present description represent percentages by weight. As stated, excipients can be added to the composition, for example some substances that help the dissolution of the film-forming polymers and/or preservatives and/or colouring agents.
Some suitable compositions for the invention are for example those which include water in the proportion of 50-80%, polyvinyl alcohol in the proportion of 10-30%, propylene glycol in the proportion of 10-25% and preservatives in the proportion of 0.5-1 %.
For purely illustrative purposes, some examples of compositions according to the invention are illustrated in the experimental part. The composition of the invention can be packed in single-dose or multi-dose containers; for example, the composition can be packed in
viαls or squeezable tubes that allow its direct application through a small opening, or even in vials or bottles equipped with small droppers (or pipettes) suitable for the application of droplets of the composition on the distal end of the eyelashes. A make-up product that includes the transparent cosmetic composition of the invention packed in vials or squeezable tubes equipped with a nozzle for its application or in vials equipped with droppers (or pipettes), represents an additional purpose of the present invention. For the implementation of the method of the invention, one proceeds by applying small amounts of the composition according to the invention on the tip of the eyelashes, through the nozzle of the bottle or squeezable tube or through the dropper. Thanks to its particular viscosity, the composition according to the invention immediately forms some drops on the tip of the eyelashes, the solvent evaporates, at least partially, and the drops remain unaltered for a long time; in this way, the spherical droplets, capturing the light and reflecting it in different directions, give the eyes considerable luminosity. The invention also concerns a new eyelash make-up that is characterized by droplets of a transparent cosmetic composition on the distal end of the eyelashes.
An example of make-up according to the invention is represented by the enclosed Figure 1, in which, Figure 1 ((a) and (b)) shows a drawing of eyelashes made up according to the invention.
The following examples illustrate the invention in a non-limiting way. EXPERIMENTAL PART
Colourless transparent cosmetic composition Water 66.90%
Polyvinyl alcohol 13.50%
Propylene glycol 19.00% Mixture of preservatives (propyl-paraben; methyl-paraben; sodium dehydroacetate) 0.60%
Process for the preparation of the colourless transparent cosmetic composition
Hot water and propylene glycol are mixed until a well-blended mixture is obtained then a portion of polyvinyl alcohol is slowly added to avoid the formation of crumbs. When the portion of added polyvinyl alcohol has dissolved, a second portion is added and so on until completion. If desired, preservatives and/or colouring agents are added at this stage, optionally dissolved in a small amount of water and propylene glycol.
The mixture thus obtained has a viscosity of 12500 cPs.
The composition thus obtained is packed in tubes with a thin nozzle, suitable for the application of the product on the eyelashes.
