Abstract

Ein Wertdokument, insbesondere eine Banknote 1, besitzt einen oder mehrere Fensterbereiche 2A, 2B mit jeweils einem z.B. optisch aktiven Element, welches eine Polarisationsebene P0 von durch den Fensterbereich hindurchtretendem polarisierten Licht LA, LB um einen definierten Winkel dreht. Stapelt man solche Wertdokumente und strahlt polarisiertes Licht durch die übereinanderliegenden Fensterbereiche, so lässt sich die Anzahl der gestapelten Wertdokumente anhand der Gesamtdrehung der Polarisationsebene PA, PB bestimmen. Im Falle von Banknoten lässt sich so der Gesamtnennwert des Banknotenstapels ermitteln. Die Fensterbereiche können für unterschiedliche Kategorien bzw. Nennwerte kategoriespezifische Drehcharakteristiken besitzen und/ oder an kategoriespezifischen Positionen im Wertdokument vorliegen.
