Abstract

A detection system has a detection apparatus and a detectable component detectable by the detection apparatus. The detectable component (3) has a magnetic element (4) movable relative to the detection apparatus and the detection apparatus includes: an oscillator (10) for providing an oscillating signal; a detection component (20) coupled to receive the oscillating signal, the detection component having an impedance that varies with magnetic field when the oscillating signal is supplied to the detection component; a sensor (21, 22', 23, 24, 25, 2'6, 27, 31) for sensing variation in the impedance of the detection component (20); and an output (34) for providing an output in accordance with variation of the impedance sensed by the sensor means and resulting from movement of the magnetic element (4) relative to the detection apparatus. The detection system may be or form part of a toy or game.
