Abstract

A refrigerator (10) includes a cabinet (11) for enclosing a refrigerating compartment (13,15), the cabinet (11) having a door (12,14) for providing access to the refrigerating compartment (12,15), a user interface (20) operatively connected to the cabinet (11) having a display (22) for displaying refrigerator function selections and a plurality of buttons (30) for selecting refrigerator functions and a control unit (66) operatively connected to the user interface (20) and adapted to control a plurality of refrigerator functions. The control unit (66) can be adapted for determining refrigerator filter information and displaying refrigerator filter information, the refrigerator filter information can include a date associated with the refrigerator filter.

Claims

AMENDED CLAIMS[received by the International Bureau on 02 January 2003 (02.01.03); original claims 1-24 replaced by new claims 1-24 (4 pages)]What is claimed is:
1. A refrigerator (10) comprising: a cabinet (11) for enclosing a refrigerating compartment (13, 15), the cabinet (11) having a door (12, 14) for providing access to the refrigerating compartment (13, 15); a user interface (20) operatively connected to the cabinet (11) having a display (22) for displaying each of a plurality of sets of refrigerator function selections and a plurality of buttons (24, 26, 28, 30, 32) associated with the display for selecting refiigerator functions such that each function selection within each of the plurality of sets corresponds to one of the plurality of buttons; and a control unit operatively connected to the user interface and adapted to control a plurality of refrigerator functions.
2. The refrigerator (10) of claim 1 wherein the plurality of buttons (24, 26, 28, 30, 32) includes a menu button (30) to select one of a plurality of screens associated with the refrigerator functions.
3. The refrigerator (10) of claim 1 wherein the plurality of buttons includes at least tliree buttons (24, 26, 28) for selecting refrigerator functions associated with a menu screen displayed on the display (22).
4. The refrigerator (10) of claim 1 wherein the refrigerator functions include a message recording function.
5. The refrigerator (10) of claim 1 wherein the refrigerator functions include a message playback function.
6. The refrigerator (10) of claim 1 wherein the refrigerator frmctions include an air filter replacement function.
7. The refiigerator (10) of claim 1 wherein the refrigerator functions include a water filter replacement function.
8. The refiigerator (10) of claim 1 wherein the refiigerator functions include an ice dispensement function.

9. The refiigerator (10) of claim 1 wherein the refiigerator functions include a water dispensement function.
10. The refrigerator (10) of claim 1 wherein the refiigerator functions include a clock function.
11. A refiigerator (10) , comprising: a cabinet (11) for enclosing a refrigerating compartment (13, 15); a display operatively connected to the cabinet (11); a control unit (66) electrically connected to the display (22) adapted for determining refrigerator filter information and displaying refrigerator filter information on the display (22); the refrigerator filter information including a date associated with the refrigerator filter.
12. The refiigerator (10) of claim 11 wherein the refrigerator filter information includes remaining capacity of the filter.
13. The refrigerator (10) of claim 11 wherein the date is an estimated replacement date for the filter.
14. The refiigerator (10) of claim 11 wherein the date is an ordering date associated with the filter.
15. The refiigerator (10) of claim 11 wherein the refrigerator filter information is air filter information.
16. The refrigerator (10) of claim 11 further comprising a dispensement screen stored in the memory for displaying at least one dispensement function selection.
17. A method for providing user control of a refrigerator (10), comprising: providing a menu button (30) on the refrigerator for selecting one of a plurality of refrigerator frmction screens; receiving a selection from a user of one of the plurality of refrigerator function screens; displaying the selected refrigerator function screen, the selected refiigerator function screen
15 providing a plurality of refrigerator function selections, each of the plurality of refrigerator function selections being physically assocaited with one of a plurality of buttons; receiving a user selection of one of the plurality of refrigerator function selections; and performing the selected refrigerator function.
18. The method of claim 17 wherein the step of receiving a selection from a user of one of the plurality of refrigerator function screens is receiving one or more menu button presses from the user to select one of the plurality of refrigerator function screens.
19. A method for providing refiigerator filter information comprising: providing a display on a refiigerator (10); displaying on the display a date associated with a refrigerator filter.
20. The method of claim 19 wherein the date is an estimated replacement date for the filter.
21. The method of claim 19 wherein the date is an ordering date associated with the filter.
22. The method of claim 19 wherein the refrigerator filter is an air filter.
23. The method of claim 19 wherein the refrigerator filter is a water filter.
24. The method of claim 19 further comprising receiving a user input to indicate that the refrigerator filter is replaced.
