Abstract

Anzeigeeinheiten, die eine optische Speicherfähigkeit besit- zen, weisen gegenüber herkömmlichen Flüssigkristallanzeigen mehrere Vorteile auf. Einer der Vorteile ist, daß nur noch diejenigen Anzeigenbereiche aktualisiert werden müssen, die sich wirklich geändert haben, da die übrigen Bereiche den Zustand nach der letzten Änderung auch ohne Ansteuerung beibe- halten. Eine verwendete Technologie für solche Anzeigeeinheiten sind sogenannte ferroelektrische Flüssigkristalle. Nachdem die ferroelektrischen Flüssigkristalle durch Anlegen eines elektrischen Feldes ihre Orientierung geändert haben, behalten sie ihren Zustand bis zum Anlegen eines weiteren in- vertierten Feldes bei. Weitere Vorteile von auf ferroelektrischen Flüssigkristalle basierenden Anzeigeeinheiten sind ein höherer Betrachtungswinkel und eine extrem kurze Schaltzeit verglichen mit Anzeigeeinheiten mit bisherigen nematischen Flüssigkristallen.Display units which have an optical storage capacity have several advantages over conventional liquid crystal displays. Die Abdeckeinheit 4 liegt also zwischen der Anzeigeeinheit 3 und einem Betrachter. Die Abdeckeinheit ist mit einer Ansteuervorrichtung 5 verbunden. Diese ist im Ausführungsbeispiel als Piezotaster 5 ausgeführt . Ein solcher Taster 5 ist besonders einfach dadurch zu realisieren, daß eine Piezo-Folie in die Karte einlaminiert ist. Entsprechend könnte die Umschaltung von Dunkel auf Hell und umgekehrt durch das Betätigen und Halten einer Taste realisiert werden, wobei nach Loslassen der Taste die Abdeckeinheit wieder dunkel wird.
