Description

METHOD FOR GLUING A SOLE TO AN UPPER OF A SHOE
The present invention relates to a method for joining a sole with a shoe upper by gluing. It is known that during some working steps, a layer of glue is applied to the lower face of the upper and to the upper part of the sole, and is activated at a later time by a predetermined temperature, so as to make the lower part of the upper adhere and be glued to the upper part of the sole.
It is also known that the upper, obtained by assembling some parts, is set on a last and the sole is placed on the lower face of the upper.
The assembly so obtained formed by the last, the upper and the sole is placed into a kind of press, of known type, to complete gluing of the sole to the upper.
Supporting and positioning means for the last-upper-sole assembly are situated inside the lower part of the press, while the upper part thereof is equipped with an elastic diaphragm defining an airtight chamber.
The diaphragm matches perfectly with the profile of the sole lower surface.
The air chamber is connected to a source of compressed air. Due to the mutual matching of the above mentioned parts of the press, the air chamber is set under pressure, and consequently the elastic diaphragm pushes uniformly the sole .
The above described system present some drawbacks. In order to make the sole adhere perfectly to the lower part of the upper, it is necessary to apply a very high pressure to the sole and maintain this high pressure until the sole is completely glued to the upper. The compression is aimed at eliminating air present between the upper and the sole when the sole is applied to the lower part of the upper.
The disadvantage of the above method derives from the fact that although the pressure performed on the sole is very high, the air present between the sole and the upper is not eliminated completely and consequently, the sole is not glued homogeneously to the whole surface of the upper, which has a negative effect on the final product: repeated use of the shoe can cause gradual detaching of the sole from the upper.
Another disadvantage results from the fact that gluing of the sole to the upper requires a lot of time, which reduces the production rate.
The object of the present invention is to propose a method which outweighs the above mentioned disadvantages, more precisely a method which allows to obtain a uniform gluing of a sole to an upper.
Another object of the present invention is to propose a method which allows to reduce the time necessary to glue a sole to an upper.
A further object of the present invention is to propose a method which does not require specialized operators.
A still further object of the present invention is to propose an apparatus which carries out the above mentioned method. The above mentioned objects are obtained in accordance with the content of the claims .
The characteristic features of the present invention will be pointed out in the following description of a preferred, but not only embodiment, with reference to the enclosed drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a lateral, schematic, partial section view of an apparatus for gluing a sole to a relative upper of a shoe, disposed in a rest configuration; - Figure 2 is the same view as the Figure 1, with the apparatus carrying out the proposed method disposed in a working configuration.
With reference to the enclosed drawings, the reference numeral 1 indicates an apparatus which carries out the proposed method for gluing a sole F to a relative upper T of a shoe, and M indicates the assembly formed by a last R, an upper T and a sole F.
The apparatus 1 is composed of two parts, namely a lower part 2 and an upper part 3, moving vertically one with respect to the other between two positions: a rest, or open position I, shown in Figure 1, and a working position O.
When in the rest position, the upper part 3 is disposed away the lower part 2 and when in the working position 0 the two parts match perfectly with each other and are hermetically closed by sealing means 32, e.g. connected to the upper part 2 , as shown in Figure 2.
The lower part 2 features, situated thereinside, means 20 for positioning the assembly formed by the last, upper and sole, e.g. a pin 20a, on which the last R is put and fastened, and a support 20b for the narrower part of the upper T previously put on the last R, as shown in Figure 1.
A source of vacuum, whose function will be explained later, is also connected to the lower part 2. The upper part 3 features an elastic diaphragm 30, which defines an airtight chamber P inside the upper part 3.
When the upper part 3 is in the working position O, the diaphragm 30 mates perfectly with the profile of the lower surface Si of the sole F; in this position, the diaphragm 30 delimits a chamber D inside the lower part 2.
The upper part 3 can be connected with a source Sp of compressed air.
The method for gluing a sole to a relative upper of a shoe includes a sequence of working steps : first the upper T is set on a corresponding last R (lasting) ; then, as anticipated in the introductory statement, the glue present on the lower dace of the upper and on the upper surface of the sole F is re-activated; and the sole F is placed on the lower part of the last R and consequently of the upper T, so as to define the pre-positioning of the sole F with respect to the upper T and to obtain the assembly M formed by the last, the upper and the sole.
The assembly M formed by, the upper and the sole, is placed inside the lower part 2, with the lower surface Si of the bottom F turned upwards, thus stabilizing the position of the assembly on the means 20a, 20b.
After the assembly has been duly set, the lower part 2 and the upper part 3 are operated to pass from the rest position I to the working position O, and consequently. the elastic diaphragm 30 goes to abut on the lower surface Si of the sole F.
Afterwards, the source of vacuum Sv is activated to create a vacuum action inside the chamber D. Thus, the porosity of the materials forming the sole and the upper increases to facilitate the elimination of air (other gases and/or particles of water vapor can be present therein, as well as products which are introduced into the glue e.g. to make it active as soon as possible) ; a pre-gluing between the sole F and the upper T (which have the re-activated glue) is therefore produced.
The source of compressed air Sp is operated in step relation with this operation; the chamber P is set under pressure and consequently, the elastic diaphragm 30, touching the lower surface Si of the sole, is subjected to a uniform pressure, which cooperates with the action of the vacuum to press the sole F against the upper T to glue them. This situation is maintained for a predetermined time, and then the source of compressed air and the source of vacuum are deactivated to resume the initial pressure conditions .
Afterwards, the lower part 2 and the upper part 3 turn to the rest, open position I, to allow the assembly M formed by, the upper and the sole, to be removed, with the sole F glued thereto.
It is to be pointed out that the lower part 2 and the upper part 3 are controlled by a control unit, which controls the stages related to the action of the vacuum in the chamber D and the action of the compressed air in the air chamber P, to determine a perfect gluing of the sole F to the relative upper T of a shoe.
The above described method for gluing a sole F to a relative upper T of a shoe and the apparatus carrying out the method are advantageous .
The defining of a chamber D, inside which a vacuum is created, allows to eliminate the air present between the sole and the upper, which ensures a rapid, perfect and durable gluing. The described method reduces also the time required for gluing the parts; the vacuum action in cooperation with the compressed air action, eliminates . the air present between the sole and the upper, thus the gluing can be more or less rapid in function to the pressure value (lower pressure - more time, higher pressure - less time) .
