Abstract

A well-based biosensor for detecting molecular or cellular events includes a well structure and a signal transmission structure. The well structure has an interior surface which defines an interior cavity. The signal transmission structure is formed on at least a portion of the interior surface of the well structure and is operable to support the propagation of an electromagnetic signal above 10MHz. In a specific embodiment the signal transmission structure includes a signal line formed on at least a portion of the interior surface of the well structure and is configured to conduct a time-varying voltage. The signal transmission structure also includes one or more ground elements formed on the at least a portion of the interior surface of the well structure and is configured to maintain a time-invariant voltage, the one or more ground elements spaced apart from and extending generally parallel to the signal line.
