Abstract

L'invention concerne un instrument électrochirurgical bipolaire doté d'une paire de mâchoires relativement amovibles, chacune des mâchoires comportant une surface rentrant en contact avec le tissu. Lesdites surfaces des mâchoires sont dans un rapport face-à-face l'une avec l'autre et chacune des surfaces adjacentes rentrant en contact avec le tissu constitue des première et seconde électrodes séparées conçues pour se connecter aux bornes opposées d'un générateur RF bipolaire, de manière à engendrer un flux de courant entre les électrodes. Les première et seconde électrodes d'une mâchoire se situent dans une relation opposée décalée, respectivement, avec les première et seconde électrodes de l'autre mâchoire. Entre les mâchoires se trouve une portion coupante. Cette dernière est amovible pour doter l'instrument d'une caractéristique de ciseaux ou de dispositif de préhension, en fonction de la position de la portion coupante. Au moins une mâchoire comporte une digue tissulaire pour contenir le tissu à l'intérieur de la zone de coagulation souhaitée, et donc pour contenir la densité du courant entre les électrodes, ce qui permet de diminuer les dommages thermiques tissulaires latéraux et d'accroître l'hémostase.
