Description

"DEVICE INTRODUCED IN BRAKING SYSTEM"
Observing several accidents, besides evaluating each of them in details and also hearing the testimony of the people who were driving the vehicle at the event time, we can note that many accidents (approximately 60%) could be avoided and happen only because the currently existing braking system, which is on board of all light and heavy vehicles, allows a loss of time, between the de- acceleration and the action of braking the vehicle, of approximately 1.2 seconds, which would be sufficient for a vehicle running at a speed of 100 km/h to pass through 33.33 meters. That is, when the driver of the vehicle in front deems required to operate the brakes, he will make it as follows: he will take his foot out of the gas pedal, will displace the foot to the brake pedal and will press it according to the situation. Certainly, such action will last more than one second, and as the driver of the vehicle coming in the back will be, without any doubt, accelerating when the front vehicle operates the brakes, then he will have to de-accelerate, take his foot out of the brake and push the brake pedal, therefore, if the vehicle is at a distance smaller than 33 meters, certainly there will be a back collision. As usually the Brazilian drivers do not respect the minimum distance, such accidents happen much frequently. But the situation is much more grave if we consider that a motor-car, because of being lighter, will require even more time, if the driver is alert, which not always happens, as a function of the fatigue and stress of long travels. And as a function of the countless events, which besides causing huge material loss, is making a lot of victims, who are seriously injured or even die, being tragically taken out from their families, becoming simple statistics to evidence the obsolescence of the safety systems of vehicles in relation to the technological progress, which increased the power of the vehicles, consequently their speed and, as a result, the number of accidents. When we state that many of the accidents could be avoided, we make it with full conviction, since nobody can predict what the vehicle in front will do.
But many actions can be predicted, giving more time to the driver coming immediately after to act, thus avoiding collisions. It is enough to install the system of this patent in the vehicles.
The object of this patent is a system much more efficient than the current system, installed in all vehicles of all models; it is provided of a photo-electric sensor that, upon being installed in the brake pedal or in the gas pedal, on over the pedals, depending on the vehicle model, will turn the brake light on when the driver displaces his foot to the brake pedal, thus avoiding the loss of time for the driver coming after action the brakes practically at the same time as the front driver, keeping the distance and avoiding collision or collisions if all vehicles would be equipped with such system. Said function is provided with a proximity sensor, which allows the driver to de-accelerate and take his foot out of the gas pedal and move his foot in any direction, however, if his foot is displaced towards the brake pedal (BEFORE THE PEDAL BEING TOUCHED) the system will automatically turn the brake light on, so as to anticipate the action, in a fully reliable situation, allowing the driver coming after to deviate or push the brake practically at the same time. Besides said advantage, the system is also provided with a delay device, which allows the brake lights to remain turned on for approximately two seconds after he taking the foot out of the brake pedal; such time is sufficient to ensure a safe start of running and speed retaking. The object of this patent has also a second function, which ensures even more safety for all vehicles. When the driver intends to brake and such action is felt by the sensor of the system presented herein, immediately a standard signal will be sent, which will turn on the brake lights of the vehicle coming immediately after, in case such vehicle is at a distance lower than that set forth in the traffic laws; for such purpose, the vehicle coming in the back must only be also equipped with the system hereof. Such function will cause the brake lights to be turned on even before the driver perceiving that the vehicle in front operated the brakes, and successively the signal will be repeated by the vehicles rolling over the same lane and which are not respecting the minimum safety limit set forth by the traffic laws. This system calculated the range of the emitted signal according to the vehicle speed, so as that as higher the speed, larger is the signal reach, and as lower the speed, smaller is the signal reach. Operation
The function that anticipates the braking warning is possible due to a photoelectric type sensor, which upon being installed strategically on the brake pedal, or on the pedals, or at any point in which the sensor positioning allows more accuracy (this will depend on the vehicle model) in sensing the foot movement, and will turn on the brake light immediately after taking the foot out of the gas pedal, when being displaced to the brake pedal.
The components will be connected to a small electronic circuit board, which receives the signal and turns the lights on. The function of signal emission, which causes the transmission of the braking action from a vehicle in front of one or more vehicles to the vehicle immediately in the back, acting the braking warning lights, will be calculated by SBS according to the vehicle speed from information received from the velocimeter, as follows: Up to 20 km/h, signal reach = 10 meters
Up to 40 km/h, signal reach = 20 meters Up to 80 km/h, signal reach = 40 meters Above 80 km/h, signal reach = 50 meters. Those values have been carefully established based on data provided by the manufacturers, which consider that such distance, in those speeds, provide sufficient time to brake safely.
When the vehicle equipped with this braking system is going to brake, besides transmitting a standard signal that will turn on the brake lights of the vehicle coming immediately after and in the same lane, and if it is within the reach of the standard signal and also equipped with the product hereof, the brake lights will be automatically turned on, even before the braking action by the driver in front and will also have as option a sound signal inside the vehicle, when the driver, by lack of attention, does not operate the brakes when the front driver does it. Those functions have been developed in order to avoid collisions and accidents; this small electronic device, of low acquisition cost and very simple installation, which does not change the original characteristics of the vehicle, may be employed in any kind of vehicle, such as motor-cars in general, buses, trucks, motorcycles, etc.
The excessive number of vehicles and the lack of circulation ways causes cars to traffic closer to each other and one of them brakes, not always the others have enough time to brake and avoid a collision or accident, since the braking warning, that is, the turning on of the brake lights, appears only after the brake pedal is pushed, and the system hereof allows the brake lights to be turned on before brakes being pushed; this difference between the before and after already ensures large advantage to this system, in comparison with the systems used by all vehicles up to this moment, but the present system also has the brake lights turning off delay system, the transmission of standard signal when the brakes are operated^ which automatically turns on the brake lights of vehicle coming after without respecting the minimum safety distance, according to the speed, and which also emits a sound signal to call the attention of the driver who did not perceive that the vehicle in front had its brakes operated. Hereafter, for better understanding and comprehension on the constitution of the "DEVICE INTRODUCED IN BRAKING SYSTEM" claimed herein, are presented the attached illustration drawings, where it can be seen:
FIG. 1 shows a perspective view of the back portion of a vehicle equipped with the present development. According to the illustration of the figure mentioned above, the "DEVICE INTRODUCED IN BRAKING SYSTEM" object of the present patent is characterized essentially by being comprised of a new system of warning and delay in the turning off of brake lights (1), that is, all vehicles of any model or origin have their brake lights (1) turned on only after the driving pushing the brake pedal.
This system warns before the driver pushing the brake pedal, delays the turning off of lights (1), transmits a standard signal of the action (2), operating the brake lights of the vehicle coming after in the same lane, according to the speed and distance, and also emits a sound signal inside the vehicle to call the attention of the driver who did not perceive that the vehicle in front had its brakes operated. All of those functions are performed by the present braking system, which is a small electronic device (3) that may be installed in any vehicle of any manufacturing year or model, providing safety and reliability and without changing the original vehicle characteristics.
Therefore, this report treated of a new conception in braking system, presenting, as we could evidence by the performed analysis and by the figures shown, several differences in comparison with the conventional models existing in the consumer market, in addition to constructive and technical characteristics fully different from those related to the state-of-the-art. Because of the advantages provided by it and also because of having truly innovative characteristics, which comply with all requirements of novelty and originality in the kind, this "DEVICE INTRODUCED IN BRAKING SYSTEM" has the required conditions to deserve the Privilege of Utility Model.
