Abstract

Providing highlights of an event contemporaneously with occurrence of the event in a client-server system. Data is associated withthe event and used to search for particular highlights. For example, if the event is a sporting game, secondary data can be statistics compiled during the game. As an event progresses, the event is recorded, and the recording partitioned to facilitate its distribution. Partitioning may be based on secondary data density, such that smaller partitions are created for periods of the event having more associated secondary data entries. Multiple highlights may occur within a particular partition, or each partition may be configured to contain a single highlight. During the event, the partitions are stored with a distribution service for distribution to clients, and associated secondary data stored in a database or other construct. The secondary data for highlight is then cross-referenced with the partitions containing the highlight. This allows a client to search the database for desired highlights, and retrieve them from the distribution service.
