Abstract

A method of removing fine cavities from the surface of a casting capable of surely and efficiently removing fine cavities and irregularities from the surface and surface layer of the casting and an agitating tool used therefor; the method, comprising the steps of inserting the agitating pin (14) of an agitating tool (10) having a tool body (12) moving while rotating along the surface (2) of an aluminum casting (1) and the agitating pin (14) projected from the center part of the bottom surface (13) of the tool body into the aluminum casting (1) near the surface (2) thereof while allowing the bottom surface (13) to abut on the surface (2) of the aluminum casting (1) and continuously moving the agitating tool (10) so that the moving paths (6) of the tool body (12) and agitating pin (14) are adjacent to each other while including U-turns (7) on the surface (2) of the aluminum casting (1) in plan view.
