Abstract

The invention describes a process and a system involving the use of search engines by mobile stations on open networks for data communication and telecommunication. Seach engines are limited to index obtained search information in relation to the mobile station's position.

Description

Technical scope
The present invention involves a process and a system for positioning home addresses for information and their geographic availability on a communication network for mobile stations. Prior art
A mobile station is today limited with regard to its capacity to present large amounts of information, depending on effective bandwidth and window/display.
Existing search engines on open networks such as the Internet (Alta Vista, Yahoo etc.) index the content and category of information. However, the problem for mobile users is accessing too much information. For mobile users, information originating from the geographic area in which one is located or in which one is interested is most interesting. Searches of this type are not possible using current indexing routines.
Description of the invention The purpose of the present invention is to solve problems associated with the mobile use of search engines on the Internet.
1. Information input:
Indexed pages (html, wml etc.) are moreover linked to one or more geographic points or areas. For practical purposes this can take place as follows: When a URL (Universal Resource Locator) is registered for indexing content, it is also possible to indicate one or more geographic home addresses for the information.
An address together with an application to translate (Geo-code) the address to a geographic point or mapping application for dotting in and thereby linking current pages to geographic points or areas.
2. Information utilization:
When a search engine is used to search for information that is available via the Internet, the aforementioned information is utilized in that the mobile station's current position, or alternatively another selectable position, is used as a reference for the search. An area defined as starting from this position is used to limit the search result'
By combining search words and the position in this manner, the result of the search can be limited to comprise localized content within a current area of interest.
A process involving the use of search engines by mobile stations on open networks for data communication and telecommunication is hereby made available. The mobile station's current position or other selectable position is used as a reference for a search on the open network. An area defined as starting from this position is used to limit the search result to the position, and the result of the search is limited to comprise localized content within the current area of interest.
Indexed pages on the open network are linked to one or more geographic points or areas. A registration of a URL for indexing the content on an open network is made to indicate one or more geographic home addresses for the included information.
An address together with an application is indicated to translate the address to a geographic point or, whereby current pages are linked to geographic points or areas. The present invention further indicates a system involving the use of search engines by mobile stations on open networks for data communication and telecommunication. It comprises an embodiment in which: a positioning unit for the mobile station's current position or other selectable position indicates the position as a reference for a search on the open network; a search engine on the open network is assigned to an area defined as starting from this position; and a limiting unit is used to limit the search result to the position, whereby the result of the search is limited to comprise localized content of the search engine within the current area of interest. Indexed pages identified by the search engine on the open network are linked to one or more geographic points or areas.
A registration of a URL for indexing the content on an open network via a unit that indicates home addresses is made to indicate one or more geographic home addresses for the included content information. An address together with an application is indicated to translate the address to a geographic point or mapping application, whereby current pages are linked to geographic points or areas.
The present invention is not limited to the embodiments described above; the wording of the attached claims defines additional embodiments for a specialist in the technical field.
