Abstract

A lighting body comprising a rounded, spherical, polygonal or elongate lighting part and a connector part which can be joined thereto for insertion in lampholders or other lighting devices. The lighting part (3) consists of a printed circuit board with serially mounted light emitting diodes (LED) (8) connected thereto. The printed circuit board is provided with an outer cover. The cover has openings. The light-emitting surface of the LED (8) is inserted in or though said openings. A control unit for incoming current is disposed in the lighting body. Said control unit converts a high-voltage alternating current into a pulsating low-voltage direct current supply for the LED.
