Abstract
The invention relates to a device (10) and a method for automatically analysing one-dimensional signals, such as ignition curves (2) of internal combustion engines or ECG signals. The automatic analysis essentially consists of the following steps: abstracting (5) a detected measured signal (2) by extracting characteristic points as characteristics (a..n) of the measured signal (2) or partial areas that are derived from said signal (2), evaluating selected characteristics (a..n) of the measured signal (2) or partial areas that are derived from said signal (2) by means of self-learning classifiers (5a..5n) of pattern recognition. The evaluated characteristics (a..n) of the measured signal (2) allow for a specific diagnosis (7), which is a reliable fault diagnosis of the ignition system for instance when an ignition curve of a motor vehicle has to be analysed.
