Abstract

A compact, i.e., very thin inflator device (10) includes a gas generating composition. The gas generating composition comprises an azido polymer, a curing agent and an oxidizer. These ingredients are combined in proportions sufficient to generate, upon combustion at a pressure between about atmospheric and 1000 psi above atmospheric pressure, preferably 250 psi above atmospheric pressure, at least 900 liters per second of a substantially non-noxious and non-toxic gaseous combustion product. Gas generating composition (40, 41), optionally supported upon substrate (20) may be in contact with layer (30, 31) of ignition-enhancing material, which is adapted to transmit heat to gas generating composition (40, 41) from ignition means (50).
