Description

Beschreibungdescription
Speichereinrichtung für ein KommunikationsendgerätStorage device for a communication terminal
Modern communication terminals are used not only for the transmission of speech but also for the transmission of data. Also for reasons of compatibility with older technical methods, coding of the data by means of tones or tone sequences (in the following simply referred to as tone sequences for the sake of brevity) is also used for transmission over digital communication links. The system of DTMF tone sequences (Dual Tone Multiple Frequency) is most often used in this context. The aim of the invention is to make the use of these tone sequences for a wide variety of applications as easy as possible for a user of a modern communication terminal. A typical user often needs a variety of different tone sequences to handle different applications, e.g. for querying the account balance tone sequences for the account number, personal identification number, tone sequences for controlling the bank's application program, etc. The administration of many such tone sequences becomes slightly confusing. Here the invention tries to achieve an improvement.
This object is achieved by a storage device for a communication terminal according to claim 1.
Advantageous developments of the invention are the subject of subordinate claims. The invention is described in more detail below with the aid of preferred exemplary embodiments and with the aid of figures.
Figur 1 zeigt in schematischer Weise ein bevorzugtes Ausfüh- rungsbeipiel eines Kommunikationsendgerätes mit einer Speichereinrichtung gemäß der vorliegenden Erfindung.FIG. 1 schematically shows a preferred exemplary embodiment of a communication terminal with a memory device according to the present invention.
In order to enable the user of a communication terminal to handle tone sequences as conveniently as possible for use in a wide variety of situations, the invention provides a storage device (SPE) for communication terminals (KEG) in which data are stored, with the aid of which the communication terminal is able to is set to transmit a tone sequence via a communication link. This storage device is preferably a so-called subscriber identity module (SIM, Subscriber Identity Module). Such modules are known from the GSM standard from cellular telephony. For example, they have the form of plastic cards on which a memory chip is accommodated, which can be connected to the communication terminal via electrical contacts.
An application program can also be stored on this storage device, which enables the user, for example, to use information technology services via a communication link. Such services often expect the transmission of data in the form of tone sequences. In this case, a preferred embodiment of the invention provides that this application program controls an application by transmitting one or more tone sequences. In the case of ner application in which, for example, the account balance of the user is to be queried via a communication link, the account number or an identity code, for example, must be transmitted to the account-holding bank. For this purpose, the corresponding application program stored on the memory device effects the transmission of the corresponding tone sequences to the system of the account-maintaining bank.
First, a communication connection to a system is set up, on which a corresponding program runs, with which the account management is possible. Then e.g. an application program the tone sequence of the account number stored on the storage device, e.g. in DTMF format to the bank's system. The application program does not have to be stored in the memory device for this; it can also be stored in the communication terminal or already provided by the bank via the communication connection.
Then e.g. transmit a promotion code for balance requests in the form of a tone sequence. The bank computer then reports the current account balance. This can e.g. by a voice announcement or by a tone sequence, which is then decoded by the communication terminal and shown on a display. Devices for coding and decoding data in the form of tone sequences are known to the person skilled in the art, for example known from modem technology.
The invention has the advantage, among other things, that the storage of tone sequences on the storage device can take place independently of the communication terminal. For example, a PC with a ne suitable additional device and suitable software can be used. If the tone sequences are used for remote control of sequences, changes in the control tasks can be implemented very simply by changing the tone sequence on the memory device.
In a further development of the invention it is provided that the tone sequence is generated dynamically as a result of a user input and is stored on the storage device. This can e.g. by using an appropriate program. Encryption can also be implemented in this way.
Finally, the storage of tone sequences on the storage device means that the tone sequences (command sequences for control tasks) no longer have to be entered by the user himself. The user does not even have to know these tone sequences. This offers significant advantages especially in the case of complex or long tone sequences.
