Description

Box foldahle into a flat state having one pair of hollow sidewalls and blank for that purpose.
Present invention relates to a box with one pair of hollow side walls and a blank for it.
Such a box is generally known and is, also for its in- sulating capacities provided by the hollow side walls, specifically used for storage, possibly in cold stores, and transport of fish, but also for the storage and transport of vegetables, fruit and the like. A drawback of such a box is that it is formed from a blank by a complex and expensive machine and that after formation in the upright state the transport of the box is relatively expensive because the box takes up a lot of space.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a box with one pair of hollow side walls which on the one hand can be formed from a blank by a relatively cheap machine, and on the other hand can be folded into a flat state in a simple way, because of which its costs of transport will be reduced considerably .
For this purpose according to a first aspect of the invention a blank is provided for a box foldable into a flat state, wherein the blank is provided with: a rectangular bottom panel limited by a first pair of folding lines facing each other and a second pair of folding lines facing each other
- a first pair of side wall panel groups facing each other and a second pair of side wall panel groups facing each other, wherein each side wall panel group of the first pair is provided with a first rectangular side wall panel which is connected to the bottom panel by the folding line, a rectangular upper panel connected to the first side wall panel by a folding line parallels-, to the folding line, a second rectangular side wall panel connected to the upper panel by a folding line parallel to the folding line, a fastening panel connected to the second side wall panel by a folding line parallel to the folding line, a first pair of coupling/reinforcement panels facing each other connected to the first side wall panels by folding lines transverse to the folding line, and a second pair of coupling/reinforcement panels facing each other connected to the second side wall panels by folding lines transverse to the folding line, wherein each side wall panel group of the second pair is provided with a third rectangular side wall panel connected to the bottom panel by the folding line, a fourth rectangular side wall panel connected to the third side wall panel by a folding line parallel to the folding line and a first pair of rectangular reinforcement panels facing each other connected to the fourth side wall panels by folding lines transverse to the folding line, wherein the first, second, third and fourth side wall panels are of equal width,
- two pairs of slotted holes facing each other in the bottom panel which are situated next to the folding lines and
- two pairs of coupling lips facing each other and facing the slotted holes said coupling lips being formed on the edges of the fourth side wall panels which are opposite the folding lines. From this blank a box foldable into a flat state can be obtained by gluing the fastening panels to the bottom panel in such a way that the folding line between fastening panel and the second inner side wall panel is situated at a distance from the folding line between the bottom panel and the first outer side wall panel, which distance is at least almost equal to the width of the upper panel. Such a pre-glue treatment can easily be carried out by a simple machine. From this box in a flat state an upright box with one pair of double side walls is obtainable by caurying out a few simple manual movements, said box being sufficiently stable having good strength of stacking/bearing capacity and, by folding the box into a flat state again, can be transported cheaply.
Preferred embodiments of a blank according to the inven- tion are described in the sub-claims.
According to a second aspect of the invention a box is provided with one pair of hollow side walls facing each other, which is foldable into a flat state, said box is provided with: a rectangular bottom panel limited by a first pair of folding lines facing each other and a second pair of folding lines facing each other
- a first pair of side wall panel groups facing each other which form the hollow side walls and a second pair of side wall panel groups facing each other, wherein each side wall panel group of the first pair is provided with a first rectangular outer side wall panel connected to the bottom panel by the folding line, a rectangular upper panel connected to the first outer side wall panel by a folding line parallel to the folding line, a second rectangular inner side wall panel connected to the upper panel by a folding line parallel to the folding line, a fastening panel connected to the second inner side wall panel by a folding line parallel to the folding line, wherein the fastening panel is glued to the bottom panel in such a way that the folding line between the fastening panel and the second inner side wall panel is situated at a distance from the folding line between the bottom panel and the first outer side wall panel, which distance is at least almost equal to the width of the upper panel, a first pair of coupling/reinforcement panels facing each other connected to the first outer side wall panels by folding lines transverse to the folding line, and a second pair of coupling/reinforcement panels facing each other connected to the second inner side wall panels by folding lines transverse to the folding line, wherein each side wall panel group of the second pair is provided with a third rectangular outer side wall panel connected to the bottom panel by the folding line, a fourth rectangular inner side wall panel connected to the third outer side wall panel by a folding line parallel to the folding line, and a first pair of rectangular reinforcement panels facing each other connected to the fourth inner side wall panels by folding lines transverse to the folding line, wherein the first, second, third and fourth side wall panels are of equal width,
- two pairs of slotted holes facing each other in the bottom panel which are situated next to the folding lines and
- two pairs of coupling lips facing each other and facing the slotted holes, said coupling lips being formed on the edges of the fourth side wall panels which face the folding lines, wherein in the upright state of the box the third outer and fourth inner side wall panels lie against each other with in between them the first and the second pair of coupling/reinforcement panels, the coupling lips are in the slotted holes and the rectangular reinforcement panels lie against the second inner side wall panels. This box can easily be brought into a flat state by pushing or pulling the coupling lips out of the slotted holes and folding the side wall panels open. In this flat state the box can be transported cheaply, whereas in upright state it is sufficiently stable because the coupling lips are in the slotted holes, and the coupling/reinforcement panels are situated between the third and fourth side wall panels. Sufficient strength of stacking is realized by the coupling/reinforcement and reinforcement panels. In a preferred embodiment of the box according to the invention the dimension of the first and the second pair of coupling/reinforcement panels rin the direction running along the folding line concerned is smaller than the width of the side wall panels . Because of this folding the fourth side wall panels about the coupling/reinforcement panels can be done without using much strength. Preferably each first and each second coupling/reinforcement panel is provided with a drag lip on the edge of said panel, which edge is situated substantially in line with the folding line concerned, through which extra stability is provided to the box.
A greater strength of stacking is obtained by a box accor- ding to the invention, wherein each side wall panel group of the first pair of side wall panel groups is provided with a third pair of rectangular coupling/reinforcement panels facing each other connected to the second coupling/reinforcement panels concerned by folding lines transverse to the folding line, and which are glued to the second coupling/reinforcement panels concerned.
The strength of stacking is further enlarged when each side wall panel group of the second pair of side wall panel groups is provided with a second pair of rectangular reinforcement panels facing each other, of which each reinforcement panel is connected to the reinforcement panel concerned of the first pair of reinforcement panels by folding lines transverse to the folding lines and each reinforcement panel of the second pair is glued to reinforcement panel concerned of the first pair.
For draining the meltwater and other liquids out off the box each slotted hole preferably has a semicircular enlar- ge ent .
