Description
COMPOSITE MID-SOLE Technical Field
The present invention relates to a composite mid-sole. Disclosure of the Invention
The aim of the present invention is to provide a composite mid- so le that i s very l i ght and has high resilience . In relation to this aim, an obj ect of the present invent ion i s to provide a mid-sol e whose permanent deformation is practically zero .
Another object of the present invention is to provide a mid-so l e that has subst antial ly no sensitivity to hydrolysis .
Another object of the present invention is to provide a mid-sole that is flexible for customization and for the provision of variable rigidities and hardnesses .
Another object of the present invention is to provide a mid-sol e whose production can use conventional technologies and whose production costs and times are competitive with respect to conventional mid-soles .
This aim, these objects , and others that will become apparent hereinafter are achieved by a composite mid-sole , characterized in that it comprises a shell , made of compact thermoplastic polymer, that is shaped so as to form one or more chambers filled with foamed material and/or with compressibl e or incompressibl e f l uid , a tread being associated with said one or more chambers in a downward region.

invention will become apparent from the description of four embodiments thereof, illustrated only by way of non- limitative example in the accompanying drawings, wherein: figure 1 is an orthographic projection view of the tread of a mid-sole according to the invention, in a first embodiment; figure 2 is a transverse sectional view of a mid-sole according to the invention, in a first embodiment; figure 3 is an orthographic projection view of the tread of a mid-sole according to the invention, in a second embodiment; figure 4 is a transverse sectional view of a mid-sole according to the invention, in a second embodiment; figure 5 is a transverse sectional view of a mid-sole according to the invention, in a third embodiment; figure 6 is a transverse sectional view of a mid-sole according to the invention, in a fourth embodiment. Ways of carrying out the invention
With particular reference to figures 1 and 2, a composite mid-sole according to the invention is generally designated by the reference numeral 10 in a first embodiment.
In this first embodiment, the composite mid-sole 10 comprises a shell 11 that is shaped so as to form a single chamber 12 that is filled with foamed material, such as two-component foamed polyurethane or other material having equivalent characteristics.
In a downward region, the chamber 12 is closed by a tread 13 that in this case is made of rubber.
With particular reference to figures 3 and 4, a
composite mid-sole according to the invention is generally designated by the reference numeral 100 in a second embodiment.
The composite mid-sole 100, in th^s second embodiment, comprises a shell 101 that is shaped so as to form a plurality of chambers 102 of different sizes.
All the chambers 102 are closed, in a downward region, by a tread 103, which is made of rubber in this case, and are filled with foamed material, such as two-component foamed polyurethane, or another material having equivalent characteristics, or with a compressible or incompressible fluid, for example air or gas.
The variation in the dimensions of the chambers 102 and their filling method provide, with extreme flexibility, the possibility of setting the ideal rigidity for each region of the mid-sole.
With particular reference to figure 5, a composite mid-sole according to the invention is generally designated by the reference numeral 200 in a third embodiment; the composite mid-sole 200 comprises, in this case, a shell 201 that is shaped so as to form a plurality of chambers 202 of various sizes, all filled with a foamed material such as two-component foamed polyurethane or other material having equivalent characteristics. All the chambers 202 are closed in a downward region by a rubber tread 203.
In this third embodiment, some chambers 202 (in this case, those related to the inner edge of the composite mid- sole 200) have a wall 204 that is thicker than the other walls, designated by the reference numeral 205, that form
the other chambers 202.
The wall 204, indeed due to its greater thickness, provides structural stiffening and support of particularly stressed regions of the composite mid-sole 200. With particular reference to figure 6, a composite mid-sole according to the invention is generally designated by the reference numeral 300 in a fourth embodiment.
The composite mid-sole 300, in this case, comprises a shell 301 that is shaped so as to form a plurality of chambers 302 of various sizes, all filled with foamed material, such as two-component foamed polyurethane or other material having equivalent characteristics.
All the chambers 302, in this fourth embodiment, are closed in their downward region by a common bottom 303 that is a monolithic part of said shell 301.
A rubber tread 304 is associated with the common bottom 303.
In practice, it has been observed that the present invention has achieved the intended aim and objects; in particular, it should be noted that the composite mid-sole according to the invention, in its various embodiments, by virtue of the foamed filling material or of the fluid, has a very light weight without sacrificing high resilience in view of its cellular structure. Furthermore, the materials and the structure of the mid-sole according to the invention ensure that said mid- sole has substantially no permanent deformation and also substantially no sensitivity to hydrolysis.
Moreover, the chamber structure allows to customize rigidities in various points of the mid-sole.
The present invention is susceptible of modifications and variations, all of which are within the scope of the inventive concept.
The materials and the dimensions may be any according to the requirements.
Claims
1. Composite mid-sole, characterized in that it comprises a shell (11,101,201,301), made of compact thermoplastic polymer, that is shaped so as to form one or more chambers (12,102,202,302) filled with foamed material and/or with compressible or incompressible fluid, a tread ( 13, 103,, 203, 304 ) being associated with said one or more chambers in a downward region.
2. Composite mid-sole according to claim 1, characterized in that if it comprises a plurality of chambers (102,202,302) said chambers have mutually different dimensions, so as to provide mid-sole rigidity variations or not.
3. Composite mid-sole according to claim 1, characterized in that if it comprises a plurality of chambers (102,202,302), the dimensions of said chambers are substantially identical.
4. Composite mid-sole according to claim 1, characterized in that if it comprises a plurality of chambers (102,202,302), said chambers are all filled with the same foamed material or all filled with the same compressible or incompressible fluid.
5. Composite mid-sole according to claim 1, characterized in that if it comprises a plurality of chambers (102,202,302), some of said chambers are filled with said foamed material and some are filled with said compressible or incompressible fluid.
6. Composite mid-sole according to one or more of the preceding claims, characterized in that if it comprises a plurality of chambers (202), the walls (204) that form one or some of said chambers are thicker than the others, so as to form supporting and structural stiffening elements.
7. Composite mid-sole according to claim 1, characterized in that said one or more chambers (12,102,202) are closed directly by said tread (13,103,203) at the bottom.
8. Composite mid-sole according to claim 1, characterized in that said one or more chambers (302) are closed in their downward region by a common bottom (303) that is a monolithic part of said shell (301), said tread (303) being associated with said common bottom in a downward region.
9. Composite mid-sole according to one or more of the preceding claims, characterized in that said foamed material is two-component foamed polyurethane or another material having equivalent characteristics.
