Abstract

A cannula which, by the special features of its design, and when used in conjunction with a measurement arrangement, makes it possible, before or during suction-type injection of liquids into the body of a patient to assess and record the state of exchange of materials primarily for kidney sufferers and especially diabetics. Essentially, however, the idea of the invention concerns an injector which, after or during the determination of tissue sugar, relates the measurement values to a pre-set dosage and dose correction, and if necessary - in the case of frequently-required corrections - automatically adjusts the programming of the dosage. This is done chiefly in a suction-type injector which draws the skin into the cannula by means of the underpressure and thus, by controlling the return of the air to the suction vessel, accurately assesses the duration of the measurement and injection. In addition to the arrangement of the sensor cannula as regards its shape, location and type of sensor coatings, electrical or optical measurement probes, the special feature of the improvement in the suction-type injector concerns its handling qualities, simple operation and ability to meet compliance requirements. The type of underpressure production, dosage and special characteristics of the operating controls are directed to this end.
