Description

ditto-LI fnde-5 GEORGE F. SGHAFFElLOF NEW YORK, N. Y.
.Letters Patent No. 99,598, dated February 8, 1870.
IMPROVEMENT IN DENTAL ARTICULATORS.
The Schedule referred to in these Lettera Patent and making part of the same.
To all einem tt may concern Beit known that LGEORGE F. SCHAFFER, of the city, county, and` State of N ew York, have invented a newand improved Dentists Articulator;7 andI do hereby declareV that the following isa full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this speciiication, in which- Figure 1 represents a longitudinal section of my improved dentists articulator.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the joint of the same. l
vSimilar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of this invention is to provide a convenient joint for dentists articnlators, which will prevent the two parts of the same from being brought closer together than is necessary.
Heretofore the articulators were* formed either' on metal frames, which were very apt'to spring together, or they were made of two pieces of plaster, with ribs and corresponding grooves for joints. Neither of these forms produced a connection sufficiently rm to prevent the front ends of the two parts frorn swinging together;
My invention consists inl the use of a box, A, made of metal, or other suitable rigid material, and of suitable size.
The lower part B of the articnlat-or is cast around it, so that the open upper part of the box is flush with the surface ot' the piece B.
The box forms a bacl'ward-irrclined socket, a, and mty, if desired, have, besides that, sorne other' depressions, b.
The npper part C of the articnlator, being castV upon the .part A B, will form af backward-inclined toe, c, reaching into the box. l
Whenever the two parts of the articulator are 'brought together in the manner shown in fig. 1, the .toe in the joint-box wille'ectually prevent their front ends being brought nearer each other' than is intended. This is important, as otherwise the :accurate length of teeth cannot be obtained for artificial teeth. vHaving thus described my invention,
I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The box A, applied to a dentists articnlator, to serve asV a joint for the twopartsot' the same, ns set forth.
GEORGE F. SCHAFFER. Witnesses: l
