DISPENSING-CASE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed April 25. 1910. Serial No. 557,556.

storing vessels, and relates particularly to a case or receptacle for use, 1n dispensing oyster meats in bulk.
The invention has for its primary object, a simple, durable and efiicient construction of device of this character which is composed of comparatively few parts that may be cheaply and easily manufactured and readily assembled, which embodies an enameled dispensing can designed to be detachably held within a forammous shell, the latter in turn being detachably held within the main body )ortion f the receptacle, it being intended that ice shall be packed around the foraminous shell so as to effectuall cool the contents of the can without. the ice or water coining in contact. with such contents; and the invention also has for its object a receptacle of this character in which the top thereof is provided with an opening registering with the top of the can, said opening being normally closed by a cover or 11d and the -wall of the top which defines the open ingbeing provided with a head or groove, a gasket fitting in the cove underneath the lid in the closed position of the latter so as to form an airtight seal.
lVith these and other objects in view as will more fully appear as the descriptipn proceeds, the invention consists in certain constructions, arrangements and combina-..
tions of the parts that I shall hereinafter fully describe and claim.
For a full understanding of the invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings 'in which:
Figure 1 is'a perspective view of a dispensing can constructed in accordance with my invention; Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view thereof; and, Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view onthe line 33 of Fig. 2.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following descriptionand indicated in all the'views of the accompanying drawings by the same reference characters.
Referring to the drawings, A designates the body portion of my improved oyster dispensing receptacle, B the lid thereof, and C the oyster containing can or pail' within the body portion A. In the presentinstance, the body portion A is substantially cylindrical and is constructed with bottom and side walls which are preferably composed of fiber or of some other material or substance which is a poor conductor of heat. This material or substance designated 1, is preferably incased in an enameled sheet metal sheathing 2 to which handles 3 are connected so that the device may be easily lifted and carried ifrom place to place.
'Within the body portion A is a cylindrical shell 4 which is formed with a relatively large number of closely grouped holes 5 and which is designed to rest detachably on the bottom of the body portion. Within the shell 4, the can C is designed to be de-' tachably inserted, it being intended that ice shall be packed around the shell. By this arrangement, it is obvious that the can C may be removed whenever desired from the ice packed receptacle, for the purpose of cleansing or the like, without the necessity of repacking the body portion, as the shell 4 will hold the packed ice in shape, and at the same time it will permit the ice to bestow its refrigerating action on the can and .the oyster meats contained therein.
The top or lid B is preferably formed of enameled sheet metal with a.rolled marginal flange 6 which is adapted to extend around the upper edge of the body portion A, it being understood that the lid B is detachable. The lid is formed with an opening 7 through which access maybe had to the contents of the canC, said opening bea ing normally closed. by a cover 8 which is preferably of plate glass and which is pivotally mounted in the manner described in my co ending application for Letters Patent o the Unite States #535,443, dated December 29, 1909. It is to be particularly noted that the wall of the trip which de I fines the opening 7 is depressed as indicated at 9, the metal which forms this annular depression being radially and reversely. Y
curved to form an annular groove 10, and a rounded bead 11 which directly defines the preferably of-rubber,
opening. A asket 12 cl 1n cross section 15 and preferably roun loosely mounted in the same time the formation and arrangement of parts insures that the gasket will be properly held in place, the said gasket being adapted to support the closure or cover 8 in the closed position of the latter and producw ing an air tight joint.
rom the foregoing description in connection with the accompanying drawings, it will be understood that in the practical use of my improved oyster dispensing can, the oysters Will the latter will be held in the shell 4; and rest with the shell upon the bottom of the body portion A, the space between the shell and the adjacent wall of the body portion will be packed with ice, and the top B will then be ap lied., v bviou'sly the parts may he very easily disassembled. for the the body portion or for cleansing the can (J, audit is evident that the entire device will be attractive in appearance and hygienic in beadl'l, whileat the be contained within the can 0 adapted to be received within the annular 5 purpose of repackingl Havin thus described the invention, what is claime as new is:
The herein described i prising a body portion,
i top for the body portion, formed with an open ng I over the can and being dispensing can, COIII- a can fitted removl ably within the body portion a detachable the said top being disposed directly also formed with an I annular depressed portion surrounding the said opening, the edges of the opening being radially and reversely-curved to term an ana nulargroove and a rounded hcad'which di- 1 a gasket titted rcctly defines the opening,
and a flat lid within the annular groove,
depressed portion of the top and restflipon; the gasket when in 'a'closed position, the top 1 of the i of the top. v 1 In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
