'WILLIAM 31T, GEFZBIG-SBY, Q33 WINNFIELE, LOUISIANiL To all whom it may concern."
Be it known that; I, Vv iminnvr W. Gmosnr, a. citizen of the United States, residing at- VJinnfield, int the perish of Winn and State of Louisiana, have invented a new and use rul Cusnidor, of which the following n specification.
This invention relates generally to cuspidors, and more particularly to one of that class ad ed fon use by invalids wherein it; is desired to destroy the euspidoraftcr being once used.
The object of ti invention to provide a cuspidor bovin .1. novel form of support for retaining it- 1 operative position, the support being constructed in such manner as to permit of its being reversed in position, and being provided With cuspidor retaining seats of different sizes, whereby a, relativelv large, or relatively small, may be properly sustained.
Vl ith the above and other objects in View, will apnea as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel constructimi and. combination of parts of a cuspidor support, as "will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accon'i mnying drawing forming part of this spec-iii ration, and in which like churucters of reference indicate corresponding parts, Figure 1 a cuspidors and a support; therefor, the cuspidors being elevated. above the support for ihc sake of clealrness of: illustration. Fig. 9 is :i perspective VlOW of a modified form of suppori. 3 is u perspective of an auxiliary rc ccptacle which, ii desired, may enter into the construction of the device.
The cuspidors 1 may be madev oi. an suitpaper, or the like, and, as shown in Fig. l are cone sluzped. it is designed that any desired number of these shall he nested, so that. soon as one used it may be removed. and desiroyed, thereby preventing the dissemination oi. disease germs.
The c-uspidors are supported in conven use by a suitable holder, one form of which is shown in Fig. 1. he holder is coi'istructed froni heavy wire of any preferrednietal, and consists of tworings or seats 2 and 3, of which the former is the larger, a series oi ribs or legs 4 that. connect the seats and av ring 5 that is enijployed for the purpose of preventing ouspidor View in perspective displaying a plurality of nested Specification of Letters Patent. Application riled July 2, 15398.
r l l l l j l l l Patented Aug. 16, 191%. Serial No. semis.
spreading of the ribs, thein intposition. 1 c
is s owu in Fig. 1, the supporc :11 proximately hourglass shaped, and the ring or keeper 5 is seated at the bends of the ribs 4. The seats and ribs may be connected in. any preferred manner, the attachment be tween ihe parts being secured in this instance by looping or bending the terminals f the ribs around the seats, as shown at (3 and 7.
The object of having the seats of different diameters is to adapt the support for holding cuspidors of different sizes. Thus, 76 Where the cuspidors are of relatively large the seat 2 will be utilised, While when of relatively small sizes, the seat 3 will be employed.
' As the support is an openwork structure, ii will be light, and niay readily be cleansed, and thus kept in a sanitary condition.
in the form of support shown in Fig". 2, the two seuts S and 9 are comitructed from a single piece of wire, the intermediate por- 80 tion oi? which bent to form one-rib 1.0 of
the series, the other rib l1 ltioingconnected with the two seats by having their Lerininels bent or looped around the same, as shown at, 12 a d 13. The free terminal of each of the 56? -'s S and 9 is secured to the rib 10 by being looped or bent around thesaine, as shown at M- and 15. This lashdescribed form. of support is also reversible for the same purpose. as that sta 1 in connection with the form shown in Fig. l, and, owing-to the simplicity of the constluction, may readily and cheaply be made, and Without the use of intricate machinery for the purpose.
In the use of the article, nested cuspidors is placed in the seals, and the article is within convenient; reach of the patient. "As soon as one of the cuspidors has been used, it removed from the others and destroyed, 190 thereby obviating an objection to the use of the ordinary imalids cuspidor, which will remain in the room after being used for many hours before being cleansed.
it is to be understood that, the, elements 1, when fashioned from an absorljientsubstance, may be coatedv with peraliin, Varnish or other substance in'ipcrvious to moisture. The member 20 is a cone-shapedreceptacle adapted to rest upon the seat 2 or the seat 3, and fashioned from metal, chine or the like. The member 20 may serve as the spit box and also "to-Ire ain 1 a plurality of 95 either one of then positioned i) proper, or, if desired, the nested cones 1 may be mounted within it.
I 'cla1m:
5 port for ouspidors embodying, 111 a one-piece structure, a pair orv seats and a rib coneons-5e 1. As a new article of manufacture, a supnectin'g the seats, and a plurality of ribs independently connected with the seats.
2. A reversible sup ort for cuspidors,
10 comprising rings of di erent diameters ;'ribs connecting thermgs; and avconleal cuspidor arranged. to be interchangeably supported in the rings, the support being 0 en axially for the reception of the apex of tile cuspirior.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing 15 as my own, I have hereto aflixed my signw ture in the presence of two Witnesses.
ILLIAM W. QRIGSBY.
