Letters Patent No. 95,7 70, dated Octoberl 12, 1869.
IMPRQVEMENT IN MILK:`NG-s'J.ooI-s1.`
The Schedule referred to in these Lettera Patent and making part of the same` To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, S. P. GLEMoNs, of Dansville, inthe county of Livingston, and State of New York, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Milking-Stools; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a representation-of my invention in perspective.
Figure 2 is a sectional View of same, taken vertically and centrally.
My invention relates to a means for avoiding accidents to milking-pails during the operation of milking; and consists mainly in the construction and novel arrangement of a milking-stool, whereby this object is satisfactorily attained.
The letter A of the drawings represents the circular top frame of my milking-stool, which is supported by the four standards or legs a a, the feet of which aresecurely inserted into the foundation cross-pieces B B, secured together by a cogging joint.
Gis the cover of the stool, hinged to the circular frame A.
D is a bail, connected to the circular frame A, and serving to'carry both stool and pail within it.
To the under side of the cover C is secured a plate, c, over which is inserted the slide m of the tube M.
The receiving-conduit M is formed in two sections. The upper. section is expanded at its upper end, to receive the stream from the tea-t. Making an elbow,
it is extended horizontally for a short distance; then, bending again, is inserted into the upper end of the lower section oi the conduit, and rotates thereinliu such a manner, that when carrying the stool, the upper section may lie turned back over the cover.
yThe lower section of the tube M has also two elbows. One end, extending up perpendicularly, serves to encircle the lower end of the upper section. The other, extending down perpendicularly, for a short distance, is covered or capped with a strainer, e', through which the milk passes into the pail.
The horizontal portion of the lower section is extended beyond the lower elbow for a short distance, and is closed with a cork or stopple d. This opening is for cleansing-purposes.
The frame A is cut out to admit the pipe M.
In the use of the stool, the operator is seated on it, and extends the expanded portion of the conduit under the cow, to receive the milk. The pail is placed within the stool, andrests on the cross-pieces 'B B.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The milking-stool herein described, having receptacle for pail, and conduit-pipe M, constructed and arranged to operate substantiallyas specified.
In testimony that I claim the above, I have hereunto subscribed my name, in the presence of two witmesses.
S. I. GLEMON S.
