certain new and useful Improvements ,in Safety-Envelops; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the-invention, such aswill enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to-the accompanying drawings,
part of, this specification.
velop which is designed especially, to be used for the sealing of money packages, valuable papers and the like, in such will be manner that it to surreptitiously open the envelop and rifle the contents thereof Fig.2 is a planview partly folded. Fig. 3 is a perspective viewceive its contents.
I view illustrating the without tearing and disfiguring the envelop. I My invention'consists in the novel con-- struction, sealing the envelop in such manner that-the only seal occnrsat one'end of-the same and in such manner that three' separate and dis- 1 tinct seals are provided at one end ofthe en- -so velop.
Referring to the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a plan view of the envelop blank. illustrating the'envelop illustrating the envelop in position to re- Fig. 4 is a perspective envelop after it has received its contents and is first sealed.
Like numerals of reference indicate the same. parts throughout the several figures in which; y 1 indicates the envelop which is provided with two wings 2 and 3, the sealing flap l,
illustrated in Fig. 2 the wings 2; and 3 are the gummed portion 'tion 8.
' front 5 and. sealing flap 6, said sealingflap 6 45 being in efl'fect adouble flap and comprislng 7 and the gummed por- Referring to Fig. 2a will be seen that the entire backs of the wings 2 and 3 are suitably gummed at 9 while the end flap 4 1s gummed atlO. H
Having thus described the construction of the envelop the same is folded and employed as follows; The blank having been cut as shown in Fig. 1 andthe portions gummed' as residing at- My invention relates to the class of en-- 'velops, 'b i1tmore particularly to a safety enpractically impossible arrangement and provision for.
. .Having thus fully .11, two. wings 2 and folded over upon the body as shown in- Fig. 2. -The front portion 5 is then folded down upon the wings 2 and 3, andby reason' of the gum on said wings the said back is'caused to firmly adhere to the wings, the wings 2 and 3 are of such dimensions as to meet each other along the line 12. When the envelop is folded in this positionflit as- Isumesthe appearance as illustrated in Fig. '3 and the same is ready to receive its contents, it being of course understood that the envelop -is placed upon the market in this form. When it is desired to seal the envelop afterit has received its contents 4 is folded over the mouth 13 of the envelop and the gummed face 10 of said envelop is moistened which causes said flap to firmly adhere to the surface 14 of the'cnvelop, thus efi'ectually closing the mouth 13 and holding Patented Aug. 31 1909.
11 of the envelopthe end flap.
it being clearly shown in Fig. 2 that the contents within the envelop. After the 4 end flap 4 has. been sealed as just described the gummed portion of the sealing flap 6 is moistened and said flap 7 is caused to firml .adhere to the outer surface 15 of the end ap .4, thus causing a;double seal to be eflected at that point. When this seal has been accomplished the sealing flap 6 is bent over the mouth of the envelop and the gum ned portion 8 caused to firmly adhere to the back of the envelop.
It will thus be seen that which the contents can be inserted or removed from the envelopand that is at the sealed end thereof. It will-also be seen that when the end flap4 is effectually sealed, the portion 7 of the flap 6 effectually sealed over the end flap 4 and the portion 8 of the end flap 6 carried over and effectually sealed upon the back of the envelop that a sealing is efi'ected at the only 'oint at which the envelop can receive or meeting together, a front portion 5 fold d back upon the wings 2 and 3 and securely there isonly one portion or part of the entire envelop at fastened thereto, an end flap 4.- adapted to be t'liriied.;.over the mouth of the envelop imdsecu'rely ftfstened to the wings 2 and 3, a sealing flap fileomprising sealing portions 7 and 8,- the portion? being adapted to be securely fastened or sealed to the outer sur-' face of the end flap 4, the portion 8 of the sealing flap 6 being adapted to be passed over the end flap i and to be securely sealed or fastened to the back of the envelop, substentially as described.
2. An envelop comprisin the envelop andtobe'securely sealed to the said wings,'a sealing'flap comprising two portions, one portion of which is adapted to besecurely sealed to the outer surface of thesaid end fle tlie other portion'tobe ado. so
to befolded over the said end flap an be securely sealed to the back of the envelop. 3. An envelop comprising a body, an end flap adaptedto be folded .over the mouth of the envelop and securely sealed, .a. sealingmii flap comprising two (portions, one of sa'i portions beingadapte to be securely sealed to the outer surface of said end flap and the other of said portions being adapted to be folded over the said end flap and securely 80 sealed to the back of the envelop.
In testimony whereof, I alfix my signature, in presence of two witnesses. 1
