UNITED STATES PATENT OEECE.
CHESTER E. EENING, OF MCGOMB, OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO JOHN B. MUELLER, OF TOLEDO, OHIO.
COMBINED WINDOW CLEANER AND WIPER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHESTER E. HENING, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of McComb, in the county of Hancock and State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Combined lVindow Cleaner and Wiper; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to combination window cleaners and wipers; and has for its object the provision of an improved and eflicient article of this class, which is strong and durable in its construction and simple and economical of manufacture, thus enhancing the practicability and commercial value thereof.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device comprising my invention, and Fig. 2 is an enlarged cross-section thereof.
Referring to the drawings, 1 designates the holder or body of the device, which has the handle ferrule 2 secured to and projecting from its central portion in a suitable manner. The holder or body 1 comprises an elongated member of wood or other suitable material and has the corner thereof opposed to the direction of projection of the ferrule 2 cut away, as at 3, in the form of an obtuse angle. The wall 4: of the incut 3 is shown as being approximately in parallelism with the side 5 of the holder, while the wall 6 of said incut is disposed diagonally relative to the side 7 of the holder and obtusely relative to said wall 4: with its outer end terminating adjacent to the plane of the side 7 of the holder, as shown.
Fashioned to fit in the incut 3 of the holder or body 1 and being adjustably held thereto by adj Listing-screws or bolts 8, is the clamping-piece 9, which serves to clamp both the cleaning strips 10, of felt, wool or other suitable material, and the wiping strip 11, of rubber or other suitable material, to the walls 4 and 6, respectively, of the holder.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed March 18, 1908.
Patented Jan. 12, 1909.
Serial No. 421,864.
To facilitate a securing of the wiper strip 11 between the clamping-piece and holder in such a manner that its outer edge is perfectly straight the wall 6 of the holder is recessed to receive the strip and form a shoulder 12 with which the inner edge of the strip is intended to coact.
It is apparent that my invention provides a light, cheap and simply constructed device of this class, and one in which the cleaning and wiping strips areeasily and quickly removed and inserted, and which when in position stand at obtuse angles to each other and in such positions relative to the handle as to enable either to be used as desired.
I wished it understood that I do not desire to be limited to the exact details of construction and arrangement of the parts shown and described, as obvious modifications will occur to persons skilled in the art.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is,
.A device of the class described, comprising an elongated holder having one corner cut away to provide a longitudinal incut, the walls of which are disposed in obtuse planes, a clamping-piece constructed to fit in said incut with the inner clamping walls thereof in parallelism with the walls of the holder with which they respectively cooperate, a wiper-strip clamped between opposing walls of said piece and holder with an edge projecting therefrom, cleaning material clamped between the other two opposing walls of the piece and holder, said wiping and cleaning parts being disposed in planes obtuse to each other, bolts passed through said piece and holder in the same direction and adapted when tightened to cause both the cleaning material and wiper-strip to be firmly clamped, and a handle projecting from the holder in opposition to said incut.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
