To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, Jomr' H. ROELKER, of Evansville, in the county'of Vanderburgh, andSt-ate of Indiana, have invented a new and'useful Improvement in Stoves, and I do hereby declare that thefollowing' is a full, clear, and exactidescription of the construction and operation of j thG, S3.l 1l6, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification, inwhicb-f t V v V Figure l is a vertical section through the line-z x' of fig. 2. v

The object of this invention is to improve the construction of cooking-stoves in sucha manner, that when the fire-bottom burns out, and has tobe' thrownaway, the whole of it' need not he thus rendered useless, but the burnt portion can be removed, and another piece, of similar Construction, substituted in its place, while the hearth, and Dther'portions not de stroyed, remain undisturbed.

- This object is readily accomplished, by casting thefire-bottom andhearth in two, ormore pieces, instead of one, as heretofore. When one of the pieces becomes worthless, it can berernoved, and another casting from the same mould put inits place; Whenproperly constructed, the" fire-bottom and hearth thus made areas unobjectionable'in every'respect astheold one, and in some particularspossess important advantages ,over it.

The form of the combined-apparatus isjherei fore in no respect difi'erent'from' that heretofore em ployed, and may be modified, as desired,'to adapt it to different kinds oflstoves.

Four important advantages result from my improved construction: First, the burnt part, B, canbe taken out without sacrificing the part A; secondly, eitbervpart, if accidentally cracked and spoiled, can be removed, without throwing away'the other part; thirdly, the castings, being smaller,-will not so readily crack from unequal heating; and fourthly, the joint gives an op portunity for theheated-part to expand, and at the same time, in some degree, prevents the conductionof the heat to the other-part, thereby preventing the fracture of the castings by unequal expansion,

From these facts, thestove is evidently much more economical than those heretofore manufactured, and not so liable to: get out of order, and give its 'ownerinconvenience and trouble, i i
