MASK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 5, 1907.
Application filed October 2, 1906. Serial No. 337-153.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, ARTHUR OTTO, a sub ject of the Emperor of Germany, residing at New York city, in the county and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Masks, of which the follow- .ing is a specification.
This invention relates to a mask of simple and durable construction and which can be made to fit under various conditions. The mask can be made so as to allow the wearing of a hat or headcovering, if desired.
This invention is set forth in the following specification and'claims and illustrated in the annexed drawings, in which Figure 1 shows a View of a mask embodying this invention, the mask being out of use or laid out flat. Fig. 2 shows a modification. Fig. 3 also shows a modification.
In the drawings is shown a mask a, of paper or other suitable flexible material. In one piece or integral with such mask or main part a are the portions having holes I) for the insertion of the ears. The mask being applied to the face and the ear-engaging part I) being slipped over or back of the ears, the mask is held in place.
T he use of strings, with their consequent objections, is avoided by this invention.
The mask can be made to terminate at the upper edge at or directly above the eyebrows. The wearing of a hat or head-gear is thus not prevented when wearing the mask, for example, in the open air or in carnivals or in severe weather, or if for any reason a headgear is desired to be worn with the mask.
In Fig. 1 is shown an opening 0 for each eye and an opening (Z for the nose. An opening 6 for the mouth is shown in Fig. 2, but is not always provided.
In Fig. 3 is shown a rip line or set of perforations f at the ear holes or loops. In case a face is broader than or of a dimension not originally contemplated a suitable tearing oil' at such rip part will enable a fit to be obtained. The masks can thus be arranged to suit various wearers or purchasers.
l. A mask of suitable flexible material having eye and nose perforations, and earengaging loops integral with the main or face portion of the mask.
2. A one-piece mask comprising a face portion and ear-engaging portions, the edges of which have enlarging means.
3. A mask of suitable flexible material having eye and nose perforations and ear-engaging loops integral with the main or face portion of the mask and being further provided with a mouth-opening.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ARTHUR OTTO.
