Applioationled December 17, 1906. Serial lle. 348,217.
T0 @ZZ 1,071,077?, 2125 muy concern,.-
Be it known that l, JULES llussnu, a cti- Zen of the United States et America, residin at Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented oei tain new and useful lmprovemf-uits in j'. which the 'following is a specification, re W- enoe being had therein to the accompaiiynig drawings.
This invention relates to beaters, and the invention relates more particular ly to a beater for agitating eggs and vegetables.
The object of this invention is to provid i a novel form of skeleton beater wherein positive and reliable means is employed tor ertending` the same whereby tsharp corners and edges of a utensil in which the same is used can be easily reached.
Another object of this invention is vide a simple and inexpensive beater can be readily manipulated. to thoroug f agitate vegetables or similar products.
l/Vith these and other objects in view, which will more readily appear as the inve tion is better understood, the same cons in the novel construction, conibination, and arrangement of parts, to be hereinafter more fully described and then speeiiically pointed out in the appended claims.
Referring to drawings 'forming i specification, like numerals of rtignate corresponding parts threu several views, in which- Figure 1 is an elevation oi a ber 1 structed in accordance with my ir Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view el" t Fig. 3 is a plan of a head carried beater.
1n the accompanying drawings l have illustrated a beater embodying a suitable handle 1, a plurality orP circumteroiitially-arranged beater arms er wires 2, ha ing their ends fastened by a cap 3, and a handle 1.
My invention resides in the novel `torni ol cap 3 and mechanism used in con ,.ectio-n by the with said cap and handle for expandingI lengthwise the balloon-shaped frame termed by the circumferentially-arranged wires 2.
The cap 3 is provided with a central ogoning 4 and with circumferentially-arraiiged shoulders 5, 6, and 7, said shoulders beingnetched, l as at 8, to receive the upper ends or the wires y 2, said ends being suitably secured within the notches of the cap 3.
` vide a seat 10 rer a coiled spring 11.
pro-
1 rated ne is presse i corners or bet* The handle 1 is provided with a longitudinally-dis )osod bore l), the bore at the upper end oi the hande being contracted to pro- [lh Y rhe spring 11 bears against a plunger 12, mounted in the bore Q, the end or said plunger being contracted., as at le, and protrudingl beyond a sleeve 15, mounted in the lower end of' the handle 1. let chably connected to the upper end of the plunger 12 is a rod 16, which entends upwardly centrally of' the wires 2 and is provided with a detachable coneshaped having a peripheral plunger 1S. position el the rod 16 and the head 17 is l strated in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings, and assuming that the beater is being ed and it is desired te reach the 4Vm edges of the receptacle or utensil containing the vegetables being agieen 'acted end 14 ci the plunger l2 d inwardly until the cone-shaped lhead 1./ protrudes beyond the cap 3 and lio 'ces the cap outwardly, expanding the balloon-shaped 'rame lengthwise, but contracting it in cross-section. The cone-shaped head 17 can then be readily moved in the corners er edf cli a receptacle cr utensil to remove of the vegetables that have no Y ted by the beater. Then the plunger eleasc-d, t ie spring 11 rci's normal poition, while A ti. wires 2 causes the beater vto assume its normal shape.
f invention entirely resides in the form of the cap and the mechanism employed for expanding or len honing the balloon-shaped l'rame wires 2 the beater.
"iltlha l claim, and desire to secure by Letters atent, is
1. in beater, the combination with a handle, and a l; alleen-shaped wire frame, ol a cap carried by the upper end of said wire frame, said. cap having an opening 'formed therein, said handle having a bore 'formed therein, spring-held plunger mounted in said b' a rod carried by said plunger and ing rpwardly centrally of said frame, an d a cone-shaped head carried by the upper end of said d and adapted to protrude beyond l cap when said plunger is pressed, substantially as described.
2. ln a beater, the combination with a handle and a balloon-shaped wire frame supported thereby, of a cap carried by the upper end of said fiame, said cap having an opening,` formed theein, a sibling-held plungei` mounted in said handle, a eene-shaped head supported by said plunger and adapted "uo move in said cap.-
3. A beater comprising a handle, a plurality of Wires carried thereby, a Gap eonneeting Jche uppei ends of said Wires, a eene-shaped head movably mounted in said cap, and means mounted in said handle lo move said head and said cap,
4. A beatei1 comprising a handle, a balloon-shaped Wiie fiame eairied thereby, a cap Carried by said liame, a eene-shaped head mounted in said Cap, means carried by said handle to move said head, and means eaiiied by said head to expand said frame lengehwise.
5. A beaei1 embodying a handle, a balloon-shaped resilient fra-ine eaii'ied thereby, a cap eaii'ied by the upper end of said haine, and means mouned Within said handle and engaging said Cap to expand said frame.
