Description

No. 825,961. PATENTED JULY 17, 1906. J. W. DEOKERT.
PNEUMATIC HAIR COLLECTOR.
APPLICATION FILED OCTJL, 1905.
7 UNITED PATEEQ'T' @FFICE.
JAMES WILLIAM DEGKERT, OF OAKVILLE, CANADA.
emeuararic HAIR-COLLECTOR:
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 17, 1906.
Application filed October 4,1905. Serial No. 281,260;-
To all whom [It may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMEs WILLIAM DECE- ER-T, a citizen of the United States of America, residing in the town of Oakville, in the county of H alton, in the Province of Ontario, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pneumatic Ha nCollectors, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in pneumatic hair-collectors; and the object of my invention is to design an ap aratus that will convey away the cut hair, tlius preventing it from falling on the individual and Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 is a detail view hereinafter referred to.
In the drawings like characters of refer-- ence indicate corresponding parts in each figure. i
I shall now describe one species of my invention.
A is the body or main portion, and the same is suitably constructed so as to be detachablysecured to the person having a haircut. As shown, the body or main portion A is formed of a brim or ledge which surrounds or incloses an opening or space A and extends out from the head so as to intercept the cut hair.
In order to enable the apparatus to perform the function of conveying away the cut hair, the body or main portion A is provided with a channel, conduit, or passage-way B,
having any suitable discharge-opem'ng or diecharge-conduit C. By any suitable means, such as an electric fan, (not showrn) connected to the conduit, channel, or passage-way B by the pipe or tube D a strong, current of air is drawn through said conduit, channel,;or assage way B, thus conveying the cut -air away.
Upon referring to Fig.2 it will be seen that the body oranainportionA is preferably dishshaped in cross-section and that the conduit, channel, or passage-way B is formed at the lowermost part of the dish-shaped configu' ration, so as to facilitate .the passage of the hair thereinto.
If desired, I ma construct a number of branchconduits, c annels, or passa e-ways E in the body or main portion A an which communicate'with the conduit, channel, or passage-way B, so as to facilitate the conveying away of the hair. The species of my in- "vention shown is provided with an upwardlyextending flange F, which surrounds orincloses the space or opening A and by means of which it is held in position on the individual.
If desired, I may suitably line the fiange F' with a strip of suitable material G, which maybe made so as to normally exert the desired pressure against thehead, so as to retain the apparatus in position.
, If desired, the apparatus may be made adjustable, so as to fit different-sized heads. According to the construction shown for this purpose the bodyer main portion A is divided at its upper end and the adjacent ends are overlapped, as shown. This diyisian of the main or body portion A necessitates the division of the flan e F and the strip G, one of which overlaps the other at their adjacent ends, as shown. By any suitable means,
such as abuclgle H and a strap I, cooperating therewith, the ap aratus can be adjusted to fit different-sized lieads.
It is immaterial what my apparatus may be made of. It may be either made of rubber, celluloid, aluminium, or any other suitable material.
When my invention is designed to be used on the head, it Will be constructed so asto occupy approximately the position shown in Fig. 1. This figure shows a dotted head and my apparatus placed so as to be well below. what I might term the hair-line, thus obsolutely preventing any interference with the barber as he cuts the hair.
It will be noted that by means of my invention the unsightly collection of hair on the floor of a barber-shop will be absolutely prevented, thus keeping these shops clean and neat. tion a barber will be enabled to dis ense with the usual boy employed to sweep the hair up.
Furthermore, by means of my inven- 1; A pneumatichair-collector provided 'Wlth a channel, conduit, orflpassage way current. 7 i
