To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, BERNHARD HENNIN- GER, a subject of the German Emperor, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Scrapers, of which the following is a specification,

reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.

My invention relates to wall and ceiling scrapers in connection with a bag serving as a receptacle of whitewash, calcimine, paint or plaster, or equivalent materials as it may be desirable to scrape from ceilings or walls.

The object of my invention is mainly to prevent any scraped particles from falling to the floor, and thus doing injury to the carpets or polished floors. In my apparatus I entirely overcome these objections.

In construction my invention consists in a combination and arrangement of parts, as hereinafter described, and set forth in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof, Figure 1 represents a side elevation of a scraper in connection with a bag. Fig. 2 represents a top view of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 represents a section on line 3 3 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 represents a section on line 4 4 of Fig. 2. Fig. 5 represents a modification employing hose leading into a box or barrel replacing the bag shown in Figs. 1 and 2.

Similar numbers indicate similar parts throughout the several views.

The manner in which the bag is attached to the scraper is as follows: The rim of the bag 1 is attached to a wire frame 2 by means of rings 3, fastened in eyes 4, provided in the bag 1. The frame 2 consists of one piece of wire bent in such a manner as to form on its narrow end a lock 5 with a spring 6 on one side and a tongue 7 and handle 8 on the other, as shown in Fig. 3 and illustrated in Fig. 2. The upper part of the lock 5 can thus be opened and closed and permit the scraper 9 to pass into an opening 1(),constructed by doubling a piece of wire 11 and fastening it to loops 12, provided on the frame 2, wire 11 thus at the same time giving rigidity to the frame, as shown in Fig. 4.

The loops 12 also give to the frame 2 a spring effect, so that the scraper 9 may be operated at any angle below forty-five degrees. At the middle of the wide portion 13 of the frame I provide a roller 14, guided by two projections 15, formed by the wire of the frame 2. This roller assures an easy movement of the frame 2 along the surface to be scraped.

To avoid the swinging motion of the bag 1 when the apparatus is in use, a wire brace 16 is placed in the front portion of said bag, such brace being snapped to the frame 2, allowing the front 18 of the brace to lap around the projections 15, thus giving the required rigidity to the brace.

As a modification I have shown in Fig. 5 in place of the bag a hose 19, which terminates in a barrel or box 20, thus eliminating the necessity of emptying the bag when full.

Having now fully described my invention, what I claim as new therein, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. A scraping device in which is comprised a frame; a bag carried by said frame; two fixed, parallel cross-wires extending between the sides of the frame near the end thereof; two cross-wires at the end of the frame, one of which is movable, and held in place by a hook projecting from the frame, and a scraper removably held between the said two sets of cross-Wires, substantially as shown and described.

2. In a scraping device, the combination of a short roller 14, with the front portion of the frame, said roller being located between two projections 15 forming guides, and stays 17 substantially as shown and for the purposes specified.

3. In a scraping device, the combination with the carrying-frame for the bag, of a vertical brace at the inner front of the bag extending downward therein preventing the swinging motion of the bag when in operation. In testimony whereof I hereto affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
