SETH WH EELER, OF CASTLETON, NEW YORK PRCESS Oli METHOD OF PRODUCING PACKAGS OiT INTERFOLDED SHEETS.-
No. senses.
5 selaer, State of NewV York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a,Process or Method of Producing a Package of In terfolded Sheets, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the ac- `10 corpanying drawings, forming a part thereof.
^ y invention relates to an. 1m roved proc .ess of producin a package o interfolded sheets, and particularly to a process of pro ducing a package of one, two, or more superposed sheets folded into books of three leaves with their terminals interfolded.
In carrying out my invention the sheet or sheets are severed from a continuous web or webs and suitably folded and interfolded cflmtiiuously until the package is iinally comete p -The main object of my invention is to pro- :duce a package of this description by inter folding the terminals of the folded sheets at the time the folds are made, the sheets themn ess of forming the com leted package is a continuous one from t e time the paper leaves the web to the time the completed package is formed.
In carrying out my invention I first take a single sheet or a unit composed of two or more su erposed sheets and partially fold same. then take a second sheet or unit of sheet into the partially completed fold.
in this fold the 'forward end of the the terminal ofthe preceding sheet and partially backward upon itself. I then take another sheet or uint of sheets and insert the forward end of the last-takensheet into the incomplete terminal fold of the preceding sheet, and so on. The result of the foregoing steps'in the order named is a packacfe containin a plurality of books each thaving three feaves, .the terminal leaves of contiguous books being interfolded. Each book contains one, two, or more sheets,l as may be desired.
In the drawings herewith, which illustrate the several ste s in the process and a package resultinv' t erefrom, Figures 1, 2, 3, 4, 5,
5 and 6 are iagrammatic views illustrating the folding and interfolding of the sheets.

selves being out from a web, so that the proc4 sheets and insert the forward end of the newv rasanten may es, ieee.
Fig. 7 is a view in perspective of a package of interfoided sheets; and Fig. 8 is a diagrank matic view showin@ two threedeaved books with their terminalls interfolded, eachbook comprising two superposed sheets.
Referring to the drawings bv reference characters, 10 designates a roll of paper con stituting a web to form a continuous supply for the sheets.
In Fig. 1 the .web is partially unrolled, andh I being embraced between the bodyxvof thesheet a, and the terminal thereof.
In Fig'. 5 the sheet b is shown as folded voverthe terminal eral of the sheet a at 14 and artially folded barf ward upon itself, so as to orm an incomplete d at i5.
In Iiig. (i another. s cet c is shown as having been severed frei-r the web, its forward end being inserted in the incomplete fold 15 of the sheet b.
Continuation of the foregoingr steps in the order named will result in a package substantially as illustrated in Fig. 7, the package be ing of any desired thickness in accor ance with the number of interfolded units.
For simplicity of illustration and descrip tion I have shown and described the sheets a, l), and c as single sheets but it will be understood that each sheet so shown may be a unit of sheetseentaining two or more single sheets, if desired.
In Fig. 8 I have shown two interfolded units each containing two super osed sheets.
It is also understood that w iile I preferably sever the sheets durin the process from a continuons web or stripl may, if desired, take the individual sheets or units of sheets from a pile in which they may be containedv in a condition already severed.
What I claim 1sroc 1. 'lheherein-described process or method of producing a package of mterfolded sheets,
which consists in severing a sheet from the.
