, Be it known that I, HENRY C. KEE, a citizen of the United States, residing at-Carthage, in the county of Jasper and State'of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in and Relating to Sectional Mattresses, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to sectional mattresses, and has for its object to secure together the sections of the same and to provide means for enabling the mattress to be readily changed or turned. I

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a mattress embodying my invention, one of the sections of which it is formed being slightly raised. Fig. 2 is a perspective view showing the parts in a different position. Figs. 3 and 4 are detail views showing forms of loops for holding the straps.

The mattress is represented as being formed of two parts 1 1 These sections are united by means of straps or bands 2 3, con nected with the sections in a peculiar man- 2 5 ner. Each strap or band is united to one edge of a section and is carried thence over the top thereof and united or secured .to the meeting edge of the other sectionthat is to say, referring end of the band 3 is secured to the near end of section 1 of the mattress and extends thence across this section and down between the two sections and is connected with the near end of section 1, whereas the strap 2 is connected with the 'ar end of section 1, passes thence upward and across that section and down between the two sections, where it is connected with the far edge of the section 1. The straps are preferably arranged in pairs, and there maybe as many pairs as may 9 required. When the parts are thus united, the straps serve to hold the sections of the mattress in place and in proper relation to each other and at the same time permit either section to be folded on top of the other, one set of straps serving to limit and direct the l movements when one section is folded u on 1 the other and the other set of straps w en the second section is the one that is folded. permits the sections to be reversed, each strap making half a turn upon their pivots, so that they lie upon the opposite faces of the mattress-sections from the arrangement shown in the drawings.

I prefer that each strap or band should be formed of two parts and provided with a take-up device 4 of some sort, such as a buckle, to permit of the adjustment of the straps in order that the sections of the mattress may be held by the straps closely together when the sections are laid out flat. As the mattress becomes somewhat flattened through wear, such adjustment will be necessa 11 order to hold the straps close to the edges of the mattress-sections, the latter may be provided with loops 6, through which the straps pass, as indicated in Fig. 2. These loops may be formed of an arch-shaped bar having eyes at its ends for attachment to the mattress-sections, as represented in Fig. 4, or of a loop, as indicated at 6 in Fig. 3.

What I claim is 1; A mattress formed of sections united together by pairs of straps, one pair of straps being attached to one edge of one section and to the corresponding edge of the other section, and the other pair of straps being attached to the opposite edges of the sections to which the firstnamed pair of straps is attached, the said pairs of straps passing across corresponding faces of the sections, substantially as set forth.

2. A mattress formed of sections united by pairs of straps or bands, one air of straps bemg connected to one edge 0 one section and the corresponding edge of the other section, and the other pair to the edges of the sections that are opposite those to which the firstnamed pair of straps is connected, the straps being secured to the mattress-sections by clasps and constructed to permit pivotal or turning movements of the straps or hands relative to the mattres'ssections, substantially as set forth.

3. A mattress formed of sections united together by pairs of straps, one pair of straps being attached to oneedge of one section and the corresponding edge of the other section, and the other pair of straps being attached to the opposite edges of the sections to which the first-named pair of straps is attached, the said pairs of straps passing across the cor-- to Which the first-named pair of straps is attached, the said pairs of straps passing across I the corresponding faces of the sections, and

loops at the edges of the mattress-sections through which the straps pass, substantially 15 as set forth.
