Be it known that I, MAXIMILIAN J. C. LEUons, a citizen of the United States, residing in New York, in the borough of Bronx and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Finger- Curettes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved curette which is intended to be applied to the forefinger for the purpose of removing conveniently the placental residues from the uterine cavity. The devices at present in use for this purpose have the disadvantage that they cannot always be directed to the place of use and that the thorough removal of the residues is only a matter of chance.
The object of my invention is to supply a curette that can be conveniently applied to the finger and which leaves the ti of the iinger exposed so as to properly feel or the parts to be cleaned7 while the curved and tapering front part of the device serves for removing or scraping off the placental residues; and for this purpose the invention consists in the novel features to be hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of my improved fingercurette shown in position -for use. Fig. 2 is a side elevation drawn on a larger scale. Fig. 3 is a vertical longitudinal section on line' 3 3, Fig. 4. Fig. 4 is a top view of the curette.

Referring to the drawings, a denotes a sleeve-shaped and slightly-tapering holder adapted for application to the tip end of the forefinger and provided with a curved loopshaped front part or scraper b, which is connected by a shank c with the upper part of the holder a and extends approximately in line with the wall of said sleeve or holder, overhanging the smaller end of the same. The holder and its loop-shaped front part or scraper are preferably made integrally of steel, which is plated with silver or other metal. The curved front part is tapered or beveled from its upper to its lower edge, as shown in Fig. 8, so as to form a downwardlydisposed scraping edge which serves the purose of scraping off the placental residues om the uterine cavity. The sleeve a is open at both ends, as shown, so that when the same is in use the finger-tip is exposed below the curved front-part scraper and can readily feel for the remaining residues, so as to scrape them 0H and remove the same. The holder a is preferably made in several sizes, so as to fit any size of finger, and is provided with holes o at its upper rear end for attaching a silk cord or banda to said holes, so that the instrument can be easily withdrawn in case it should slip 0H from the iinger during the operation. The cord or band d can be sterilized, with the instrument, before use. The loop-shaped end of the cord is preferably placed on the wrist, as shown in Fig. 4, before introducing the instrument into the uterine cavity.
The curettes are supplied in diHerent sizes and shapes and in different lengths and either with dull or sharp edge at the front curved part of the scraper, so that the finger is thereby artificially elongated to any desired length and can be provided with any shape of curette to suit any individual case. A further advantage of my device is that it can be used directly under the guide of the sensitive Enger-tip, so that only those parts are scraped which need this procedure.
Having thus described my invention,` I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A finger-curette comprising a sleeve open at both ends, and a scraper overhanging one end of said sleeve and extending forwardly therefrom in line with the wall of the same, said scraper embodying a downwardly-disposed scraping edge.
