To all whom, it may concern.-

Be it known that I, MARY DAVIS, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Allegheny, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtain-Fixtures, of which the following is a specification, reference being bad therein to the accompanying drawings.

This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in curtain-fixtures, and has for its object the provision of novel means for supporting a curtain-pole adjacent to a window-frame, doorway, or alcove, whereby the pole can be adjusted to any desired position relative to its support.

Another object of this invention is to provide a window-fixture which can be easily and quickly secured to a window-frame, and I have provided novel means for adjustably supporting a curtain-pole and dispense with the troublesome feature of draping curtains upon a pole after it has been placed in position.

A further object of this invention is to provide a curtain-fixture which will be extremely simple in construction, strong and durable, and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture.

With the above and other objects in view the invention finally consists in the novel construction, combination, and arrangement of parts, which will be hereinafter more fully described and then specifically pointed out in'the claim, and referring to the drawings accompanying this application like numerals of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, in which Figure l is a perspective view of a windowframe, illustrating my improved fixture as applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional View of a portion of one of said fixtures, and Fig. 3 is a rear view of an adjustable member of the fixture.

. In Fig. 1 I have illustrated the fixture as applied to a window-frame 1, and to put my invention into practice I provide a bracket 2 on each side of the frame. These brackets extend vertically the length of the frame and have inclined ends 2, which are attached to the frame. Each bracket is provided with a vertical slot 3, extending at least the length of the window-opening in the frame. A strip 6 lies back of each bracket 2 and at its upper end is provided with an integral boss or enlargement 6, which lies within the slot 3. At the lower end the strip is provided with a block 7, which also lies within the said slot 3. This block 7 is fastened to the strip 6 by a screw'8, the shank of which extends beyond the block to receive a thumb-nut or button 9, the base of which has wings 10, (see Fig. 1,) which overlie the edges of the slot and engage with the front face of the bracket 2. Attached to the boss or enlargement 6 at the upper end of the strip is a plate 5 of a length equal to the width of the bracket 2.

Each of the plates 5 is provided with a screwknob 10, which extends through a slot 11, formed in a substantially L-shaped bracket 12. Adjustably secured to the angular portion of the bracket 12 by a set-screw 14 is a supporting-bracket 15 for a curtain-pole 16. The supporting-bracket 15 is provided with a slot 17, through which the set-screw extends, and the outer end of the supportingbracket is substantially hook-shaped, as indicated at 18, whereby the ends of the curtainpole may rest therein.

When it is desired to drape a curtain, such as illustrated in Fig. 1, upon the curtain-pole 16, the screw-knobs 9 9 are loosened and the strips 6 6 permitted to travel downwardly within the brackets 2 2, this movement placing the supporting-brackets 15 15 in a position that the curtains and curtain-pole may be placed thereon without the use of a stepladder or the like elevating object. When the supporting-brackets 15 15 are in a lowered position, the curtain-pole and curtains can be positioned as desired in respect to the window-frame. Should it be desired to extend the brackets laterally to accommodate alonger curtain-pole, the screw-knobs 10 are loosened and the brackets 12 12 moved outwardly to the desired position, when they are again tightened to firmly hold the brackets in their adjusted position. The position of the curtain-pole and curtains can be adjusted transversely of the window-framesthat is, moved farther away or closer to the frame, as desiredby the set-screws 14:. The slotted supporting-brackets 15 are adjustably connected to the substantially L-shaped brackets 12 by the set-screws 14:. When the curtains and pole have been correctly positioned in respect to the window-frame, the strips 6 6 can be elevated and retained in their proper position by the screw-knobs 9 9.

The reference-numerals 19 19 designate outwardly-extending prongs carried by the strips 6 6 directly in the rear of the plates 5 5, and these prongs are adapted to engage the rear IIO face of the brackets 2 at each side of the slots 3 and prevent the adjustable construction carried by the upper end of each of the strips 6 from swinging outwardly when the curtainpole and curtains have been elevated to the top of the window-frame.

From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the drawings, it will be observed that a curtain-pole and curtains carried thereby can be adjusted laterally, verti cally, and longitudinally in respect to the Window-frame, and these adjustable features perinit of my improved fixtures. being used in connection With different sizes of frames and curtain-poles.

While I have herein illustrated the preferred manner of constructing my improved fixtures, it is obvious that various changes may be made in the details of construction Without departing from the general spirit and scope of the invention.

What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

In a curtain-fixture, the combination with a Window-frame, of brackets secured to said frame, extending the length of the frame and having vertical slots extending the length of the windowopening in said frame, strips mounted against the rear face of the brackets and having blocks at their lower ends engaging in the slots of the brackets, screws carried by said blocks, means engaging said screws and the front face of the strips to lock the latter in position, integral bosses or enlargements on the inner faces of said strips at their upper ends, said bosses or enlargements lying within said slots, plates secured to said bossesor enlargements, angle-brackets adjustably secured to said plates, and pole-supporting brackets adjustably secured to one arm of said angle-brackets, substantially as described.
