JAMES THOMAS MINYARD, OF ALMA, ARKANSAS.
GRACKLlNe-PRESS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 782,618, dated February 14, 1905.
Application filed August 6, 1904. Serial No. 219.890. Y
To @ZZ whonfz/ 7215 may concern: v.
Be it-kno wn that I, JAMES 'THOMAS MINYARD,
i a citizen of the United States, residing at Alma,
in the county of Crawford andState ot' Arkansas, have invented new and useful Improvements in Orackling-Presses, of which the fol# lowing is a speciiication.
My invention is a press and strainercombined, and is intended to strain the lard from cracklings, juices from fruits, &c.
1n the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is aperspective view of my invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view. Fig. 3 is a detail sectional view showing the sieve unscrewed from the nipple. Fig. 4 is a face viewof the strainer.
My invention is described as follows:
' 1n the accompanying drawings the numeral 1 represents a cylindrical cup, in which 2 is the lid. Secured to the center of the lid and extending some short distance above the samek is a bearing` 3. Resting on the top of said bearing is a threaded nut 4. Said threaded nut is braced in position by four or more braces 5. Secured to the outer face of the said cup are two arms 6, their. upper ends extendinga little above the top of the lid, bent inwardly over the top thereof, and terminating in eyes 7. Working on the top of the threaded nut 4 is an idle nut 8, and secured to and extending from said idle nut are arms 9, terminating in hooks 10. These hooks are turned into the eyes 7 and securely hold the lid 2 firmly downYY down in said cup is av follow-block 15, having mounted in its center and on its upper face a bearing 16. Said bearing is properly braced by braces 17.
Working through the threaded nut 4 is a threaded rod 18, the lower end oi' which works `and turns Ainthe bearings 16 ofthe followblock 15, its upper end working through the threaded nut and terminating in a crank-handle 19. Secured to the sides of the cup are handles 20.
Inoperation the hooks 10 are withdrawn from the eyes 7 -oi' the arms 6 and the lid removed. This brings with it the threaded nut 4 and the threaded rod 18. 1 then remove the follow-block 15 and iill the cup nearly to the top with cracklings or such other material as 1 desire to press. I then put the follow-block in on top of such material, turn the rod 18 back until it is Jfully up out of the way, then put the lid on and secure it in place by passing the hooks 10 of the arms 9 into the eyes 7. I then turn the rod to the right, which forces the follow-block down and presses the material. Y
shaped is that the press may tit various-sized jars. Y
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-d 1. The combination or' the cup 1, provided at its lower end with a funnel-shaped nose l2,
and nipple 13; a lid 2, fitting on the top of.
said cup; a bearing 3, extending upwardly and from the center oi' said lid; a threaded nut 4, secured on the top of said bearing, and secured in place by braces 5; arms secured to the sides of said cup reaching above and over the edge of said lid, and terminating in eyes; an idler-'nut 8, iitting on the top of said thread. ed. nut4; arms 9, extending from said idlernut and terminating in hooks 7; a strainer 11, fitting inthe bottom of said cup; a sieve 14, secured to the nipple 18, of the' nose, and a threaded rod screwing through the nut 4, adaptedto press the follow-block 15, down, said rod provided at its upper end with a crank-handle 19, substantially as shown and described and for the purposes set forth.
2. rlhe combination of the cup, p rovided with a funnel-shaped nose; a threaded nipple extending from the lower end'oil said nose; a f
sieve screwing on said nipple; a lid fitting on.
block down, substantially as shown and de- IO scribed and for the purposes set forth.
In testimony whereof I aHiX my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
JAMES THOMAS MINYARD.
